Falcons Finish Fifth At All-Ohio Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University track and field team wrapped up action at the 2004 All-Ohio Track and Field Championships Saturday in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. After scoring only seven points on day one the Falcons registered 64 points on day two and climbed from eighth to fifth place with a total of 71 points. The host Buckeyes captured the crown with 158.50 points.
The top BGSU highlight came in the 4x100 meter relay squad of Alicia Taylor, Valerie Holland, Jessica White and Amber Walker, who posted a school-record breaking time of 46.33 and finished second in the event. The previous-best time in the 4x100 was 46.56, set last season.
For Holland and Taylor, the 4x100 was not their only top performance on the night. Holland placed third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.83, the second-best time in school history. Taylor placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a 13.97.
Freshman Erica Wilson set a personal-best of 19-05.50 in the long jump, which was also the fourth-best mark in BGSU history. She finished second in the event.
The Falcons had several top performances in the throws. Kerri McClung continued her strong outdoor season with a second-place finish in the shot put with a regional qualifying mark of 46-10.25. Liz Honneger placed seventh in the discus with a 143-06. They were joined by Andi Bunko from day one, who placed sixth in the javelin with a distance of 118-10.
Up next for BGSU is a trip to Des Moines, Iowa, where they will compete in the Drake Relays from April 22-24.
