BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University has announced the hiring of Mark Hardaway as an assistant coach for the volleyball program. Hardaway returns to BGSU after coaching for the Falcons from during the 1991 and 1992 seasons.
"I am very excited to return to BGSU and have the opportunity to be a part of a program that is so rich in tradition," said Hardaway. "Denise has proven to be a great coach and mentor. Having a second chance to be a part of the Falcon volleyball program is awesome for me."
Hardaway returns to Bowling Green after serving as the head coach at Evansville from 1995-2002. During his tenure with the Purple Aces' Hardaway recorded 11 all-conference, five all-newcomer and 20 academic all-conference selections, as well as had two players drafted by the US Professional Volleyball League.
From 1993-1995 Hardaway was the head women's volleyball coach at Western Kentucky University, where he led the Hilltoppers to back-to-back 20-win seasons and had a .625 winning percentage.
Prior to Western Kentucky, Hardaway coached at BGSU during the 1991 and 1992 season, where he teamed with head coach Denise Van De Walle to lead the Falcons to a 1991 MAC Tournament crown, as well as BGSU's first NCAA tournament appearance. In his two seasons at Bowling Green he helped the Falcons to a 59-13 overall and 32-2 MAC record.
"I am thrilled to have Mark back as my assistant," said Van De Walle. "When he was here in the early 90's we had great success and chemistry together. He's a hard worker and is excited to be back. Having been a DI head coach he knows exactly what to expect at this level. I feel very blessed to have a person with so much experience on my staff."
