COPPES HAS A DAY VS. DUKES
Falcon forward Kristy Coppes certainly opened her senior season on a successful note ... Coppes shattered the BGSU and Mid-American Conference records by scoring six goals in Friday's (Aug. 27) 7-3 win over visiting Duquesne ... her total fell just one shy of matching the NCAA Division I record of seven goals in a match.
COPPES EARNS MAC WEEKLY HONORS...
Not surprisingly, senior Kristy Coppes was named the MAC Player of the Week on Monday (Aug. 30) ... Coppes earned the honor for the third time in her Falcon career, becoming the first BGSU women's soccer player to be named the league P-O-W on three occasions ... Jill Conover is the only other player in school history to earn multiple league player-of-the-week awards, having been chosen twice in her BG tenure.
...AND NATIONAL WEEKLY HONORS
In addition to her MAC honor, Kristy Coppes received another prestigious award after her prodigious performance ... late Wednesday (Sept. 1), Coppes was named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week ... this marks the fourth week in the history of the BGSU women's soccer program that a Falcon player has been named to a national weekly team, with Coppes becoming the first-ever BG player named in two different weeks ... she was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week last Oct. 8 ... the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week is comprised of 11 players from around the country, chosen on the basis of their play the previous week ... the complete list of BGSU honorees follows ...

HEAD COACH ANDY RICHARDS
Andy Richards is in his fifth season as a collegiate head coach, all with the Falcons, and has an overall record of 38-41-6 ... Richards has led the Falcons to the three finest seasons in school history over his first four years ... last season, he guided the Falcons to the championship match of the MAC Tournament for the second time in his four seasons ... BGSU has advanced to the semifinals of the league tourney in three of his four campaigns to date ... Ashlee Orr is in her fifth season as an assistant coach for the Brown and Orange, while Eric Golz is in his first fall on
Richards' staff.
ANDERSON MATCHES A SCHOOL MARK
Perhaps lost in the Kristy Coppes scoring frenzy was the fact that junior Britt Anderson tied the school record for assists in a match, with three vs. Duquesne ... four other players, including current Falcon senior Nikki Pucillo, had registered three assists in a match ... in the DU contest, Anderson equalled her assist total for all of last season ... she entered the 2004 campaign with a career total of four assists.

A trio of BGSU standouts were named to the all-tournament team at the Falcon Classic ... Britt Anderson, Kristy Coppes and Tiernay Tilford all earned the honor ... THE OPPONENTS / THE SERIES
Michigan State will bring a 2-0-0 record to Cochrane Field on Friday, after beating Colorado College (4-1) and Western Michigan (2-0) to open the year ... the Spartans returned 17 letterwinners, including six starters, from last year's 12-8-0 team ... that group finished 4-6-0 in Big Ten play for head coach Tom Saxton ... MSU is ranked seventh in the Great Lakes Region in this week's Soccer Buzz poll ... the school's athletics web page is www.msuspartans.com.
Eastern Illinois, like MSU, is ranked in the Soccer Buzz poll, listed at 14th in the Great Lakes Region this week ... the Panthers have a tough schedule to open the year ... after opening the season with a 2-0 win over Evansville, EIU played a match at Notre Dame, ranked second in the nation, and fell to the Irish by a 3-0 count ... the Panthers play at Nebraska (receiving votes in the national poll) Friday before hosting BG Sunday ... EIU has 16 letterwinners, including nine starters, back from last year's team that went 11-6-5 overall, 6-0-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference and advanced to the NCAA Tournament ... the school's athletic web site is www.eiu/edu/panthers.
The Falcons trail Michigan State, 5-1-1, in the all-time series ... MSU has won the last two meetings, including a 3-2 verdict in East Lansing last year (Oct. 15, 2003) ... BG's lone series win came in overtime, also by a 3-2 score, in the 1999 season opener at Cochrane Field ... BGSU trails Eastern Illinois, 1-0-1, in that series ... the teams tied in Charleston two years ago, before the Panthers came to Cochrane and left with a 4-2 win last fall, a year to the day before this season's meeting (Sept. 5, 2003).
FALCONS PICKED FOR FIFTH-PLACE TIE
The Falcons were picked to finish in a fifth-place tie in the MAC in the league preseason poll ... the poll, released August 17, is a result of voting by the league's 13 head coaches ... Western Michigan, the defending league tournament champion, was picked to win the 2004 regular-season crown, followed by Ohio, Eastern Michigan and Miami ... BGSU was picked to tie with Ball State for fifth place ... the Falcons were the choice of two coaches to win the league tourney, trailing WMU (7) and OU (3) in that category ... Miami received the other tournament title vote.
