ATHENS, Greece - The USA National Sitting Volleyball team and Denise Van De Walle improved to 2-1 in the Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece after capturing a five set match over #2 Slovenia (16-25, 25-22, 15-25, 27-25, 15-9).
Here is how Van De Walle broke down the match:
"This was such an exciting win for us tonight. In the fourth set we were down 21-18, then tied it at 23-23 but then we missed a serve to put Slovenia up 24-23 and serving for match point! Slovenia made a substitution to serve to win the match and she served out of bounds! We never let up and came back to win the set 27-25. We showed such an intense desire to win in the fourth set. In the 5th set, it was tied at 6-6 and Kendra Lancaster served 6 straight points. At that point we knew we had it. The win feels so good since Slovenia, like Finland,
beat us in May 3-0 every time we played them. What a great match! With a win over the Ukraine in the morning, we are assured the medal round."
Up next for Team USA is a 9:00 a.m. showdown with Ukraine.
