Recap | Final Stats | Notes
"He (Mawel Soler) just pounded the boards. He goes after it like it is the last rebound of the game and he is going to get it. He does that in practice and as a team we preach crashing the boards and at times we relaxed and they got to the boards on us but when are playing our game, we're crashing the boards."
"When he (John Bowler) isn't in the game we obviously have a size advantage and we're not used to having a size advantage. But with him out, it opened up the backboard for us and we controlled them pretty well."
"We just don't really get deterred by what they're playing (defensive scheme). We know if we run our stuff we'll get good shots."
"I thought it was unfortunate for Jim (Boone) and Eastern, whatever the situation is with John Bowler. We've lived that for the past two years and he is such a big part of what they do, I feel for them, that's too bad. Having said that, I felt that our guys came out to play. I was worried because kids sometimes let down and when we told them the difference in the starting line-up, I was worried we were letting down and we didn't. I thought we played as a team, we helped each other, were in good spots and we got good individual play from a number of guys. I thought John Floyd for the most part...12 to 1 assists to turnover isn't badand Mawel Soler again came in the basketball game and our seniors had us ready to play."
"I didn't like our movement to start but John Reimold is a smart kid and recognized that he had (Michael) Ross on him and we got him to the block, those guys got it to him and I thought that got it going. When you lose a guy like Bowler most people look at statistics, scoring and rebounding but what you're losing is interior strength, physical presence, defense inside and pressure he puts on you."
"We have a team that likes each other, that will share with each other and for the most part our offensewas pretty good. Reimold saved the day a little bit in the second half from making it a close game by drilling threes. I thought he had great looks in the first half that he missed and I told him you're going to keep shooting. If you're going to miss ten of them you're going to miss ten of them. Keep shooting, get your shoulders forward."
"I thought our defense was good. I thought our defense communicated, I thought our pressure on the ball...we got hurt up here last year with a variety of ball screens. I thought our guy guarding the ball, mostly Steven (Wright) and John Floyd, did a nice job of avoiding the screen, getting through and I really thoughtfrom the start again. I was disappointed they were able to get on the offensive glass against us but everybody gets on the offensive glass against us. Overall I thought we did a nice job defensively. I thoughtwe handled the things that they presented...Our interior defense I thought was good and the kid (Darryl) Garrett is a really good offensive player. He was able to get above his average but other than that I thought we handled things okay."
