Falcons Place Second at BGSU Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University track and field team, with 221.50 points, placed second in the BGSU Invitational held inside the Perry Field House Saturday afternoon. Western Michigan (227.50) captured the title, while Miami (212), Ohio (123.50) and Detroit-Mercy (111.50) completed the five-team meet.
Sophomore Jessica White had an impressive start to the 2005 campaign by capturing both the 60-meter (7.65) and 200-meter dash (25.58), for a quick 20 points towards the Falcons second-place finish. Both times were career-bests for White.
Nicole Standback posted a career-best 8.84 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles for a second place finish.
In the distance events the Falcons took home top honors in both the 1600 meters and 3,000 meters, and nearly captured the 5,000 meters as well. Senior Melissa Kruger was four seconds faster then the nearest competitor in the 1600, posting a time of 5:07.31 and freshman Jamie Roflow dominated the 3K with a time of 10:04.52, 26 seconds faster then Miami's Tricia Frisella. Also newcomer Stephanie Hillman placed second in the 5K with a time of 17:58.80.
High jumper standout Erica Wilson posted a mark of 1.68 meters for a third-place finish, while sophomore teammate Veronica Vance placed second in both the long jump (5.55 meters) and triple jump (11.45 meters).
Senior Kerri McClung dominated the throw events bringing home top honors in the shot put (15.36 meters) and posting a third-place mark in the weight throw with a distance of 15.50 meters.
Up next for BGSU is a trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where they will be competing at the Red Simmons Invitational on Saturday, January 22, before returning home on January 28, when they will host the BGSU Quintrangular.
