Super "Yooper" Series Between Falcons and Wildcats
Bowling Green travels to Marquette, Mich., to take on Northern Michigan in a two-game series this weekend, Jan. 21-22, at the Berry Events Center. BGSU enters the series fifth in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association standings, just three points behind fourth-place NMU. The Wildcats have played two more league games than the Falcons this season. Both games are scheduled for 7:35 p.m. faceoffs and can be heard on 88.1 FM with play-by-play from Andy Evans.
Falcons Face Northern Michigan
The irresistible force against the immovable object. BGSU enters this weekend with the best road record in the CCHA (5-2-2), while host Northern Michigan boasts a 7-0-1 home record in the Berry Events Center. The Falcons lead the overall series with the Wildcats, 30-22-6, but are 0-3-1 in their last four trips to Marquette. The series is tied between the two teams in the last 10 matchups overall, 4-4-2. Seven of the last 10 games have been decided by two goals or less, including three of the four matchups last season. BGSU is 12-14-4 in Marquette.
NHL Scouting Service Recognizes Two Falcons
The NHL's Central Scouting Service has listed seven CCHA players, including two Falcons, out of a total of 270 North American players on its Mid-Term Ranking for the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. SO defenseman Jonathan Sigalet is ranked 86th and joined on the list by teammate Jonathan Matsumoto, a freshman forward who leads the Falcons in scoring and is No. 153 on the Mid-Term report. BGSU is the only CCHA team with two players on this report.
More For Morrison This Year
JR Don Morrison has already bettered his season point total from last year (2-9--11 in 38 games) with 2-11--13 in just 16 games this season. His 0.81 ppg. average is 13th best among all defensemen in the country. His plus/minus rating of plus-4 is best among all Falcon blueliners, as well.
Plenty of Scoring to Go Around
Nine different Falcons have reached double-digit point totals already through 20 games this season, led by FR Jonathan Matsumoto with 17 points (9g, 8a). Of those nine Falcons, four are freshmen, two are sophomores, two are juniors, and one is a senior.
10 and Then Some
This is the fastest that BGSU has reached 10 wins in 20 games or less since 1995 when the Falcons started 10-2-1. BGSU also picked up its seventh victory before the month of December for the first time since 1996.
