Falcons' Homecoming a Successful One

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University football team finally opened the home portion of the 2005 schedule on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 1), and the Homecoming game was a successful one for the Brown and Orange. The Falcons downed Temple University, 70-7, at Doyt L. Perry Stadium. A few notes from the game ...

The Falcons improve to 52-22-10 in Homecoming games through the years ... BGSU has won five straight Homecoming games.

BGSU has won 15 consecutive games in October dating to the 2001 season.

BGSU forced a season-high five turnovers.

The Falcons matched their 42-point first half from last season's road win vs. the Owls ... BGSU led, 42-9, at the half last season.

Junior quarterback Omar Jacobs, who played just over one half, completed 26 of 30 passes for 326 yards and four touchdowns ... it was his 11th career 300-plus yard effort ... for the season, he has completed 101 of 160 passes for 1,432 yards and 17 TDs in four games.

Jacobs, in only his second year as a starter, now has thrown 62 career TD passes ... he is second in BGSU history, trailing record-holder Brian McClure (63 from 1982-85) by a single TD toss.

The Falcons scored rushing touchdowns on back-to-back possessions when B.J. Lane scored on a nine-yard run and Steve Sanders scored on a 21- yard reverse ... BGSU scored touchdowns on each of the team's first five possessions of the game.

Sanders had his third 100-plus yard receiving game of the season and the eighth of his career ... he caught five passes for 108 yards vs. the Owls, and has caught 25 passes for 427 yards this year.

Sanders had his fifth straight two-TD reception performance dating to last year's GMAC Bowl ... he entered the game tied for second in the nation in TD catches and has eight this year .. his three TDs on Saturday (one rushing) is a career high ... Sanders entered the game ranked first in the MAC and seventh in the country in scoring at 12.0 per game.

Senior Charles Sharon had seven catches for 95 yards and a TD ... he has 27 catches for 429 yards this season.

Senior Mike Thaler forced his first career fumble, which was recovered by freshman Antonio Smith.

Smith picked off his second pass of the season and returned the INT 53 yards for the score ... he returned his other interception for a TD as well, a 47-yarder at Ball State.

Senior linebacker Jamien Johnson forced and recovered his first career fumble on the same play.

Senior cornerback Jelani Jordan had a career-high two interceptions, his first two of the season ... he now has six in his career.

Senior P.J. Pope had his first TD of the season on a 13-yard pass from Jacobs ... Pope later scored on a four-yard run and now needs 10 TDs scored to become the BGSU all-time leader in that category ... he is third all-time in BGSU history with 38 TDs (30 rushing, 8 receiving).

Redshirt freshman Anthony Turner scored his first career TD on a two- yard run in the third quarter.

Senior Nate Fry handled placekicking duties on kickoffs, PATs and field goals. He tied a school record by making all 10 PATs (Shaun Suisham, 2004 at Temple)

Redshirt freshman Marques Parks made his first career start at wide receiver.

Freshman defensive back Edwin "Petey" Hood saw his first career action.
