BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Freshman Corbie Yee scored her third goal in the last two matches, and senior goalie Ali Shingler and the Bowling Green State University defensive corps pitched a shutout, as the Falcons posted a 2-0 victory over Ohio University Friday afternoon (Oct. 7). The Mid-American Conference match was held at Cochrane Field.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 7-6-0 on the season, and 3-2 in MAC play. The Bobcats drop to 3-8-0 and 1-4, respectively.
The victory was BGSU's first over the Bobcats in the history of the program. Since 1996, the first year for varsity intercollegiate women's soccer at both institutions, Ohio had held a 7-0-1 advantage in the series prior to Friday.
Senior Julie Trundle joined Yee in the scoring column, putting away a penalty kick in the second half.
Yee's goal came with 10:50 elapsed in the opening half. Senior Samantha Meister played a ball that put Yee through the Bobcat defense. Ohio goalkeeper Kieniele King was forced to come charging out of her net in an attempt to win the ball, but Yee got there first, and calmly slid the ball under the diving 'keeper and into the vacated net. Meister drew the lone assist on the play.
Meister had a good scoring chance of her own, approximately seven minutes after Yee's goal. Senior Britt Anderson deftly flicked a pass to Meister on the right side of the penalty area, but King was able to make the save on Meister's point-blank shot.
The game remained 1-0 until just over 30 minutes remained in the second half. Junior Lindsay Carter poked the ball away from King as the Ohio goalie attempted to pick it up at the top of the penalty area. Carter tracked down the ball on the left side of the box, made several moves to elude her opponents and finally was pulled down from behind.
A penalty kick, BGSU's first of the season, was awarded, and Trundle's shot found the left side of the net to conclude the scoring.
The Falcons held a 10-7 advantage in shots, with each team putting four shots on goal. Shingler made three saves (BGSU was credited with one 'team save') en route to the shutout win. King, a third-year sophomore making her collegiate debut, had two saves.

"It was nice to see Corbie Yee get another goal and keep her streak going, and it was a well-taken penalty kick by Julie Trundle, after Lindsay Carter had done a tremendous amount of work to win the penalty for us.
"We defended very well today; it was just a good overall team performance. We looked very solid, and really didn't let Ohio have too many chances or let them get back into the game once we had asserted ourselves.
"We are very happy with the three points, and we look forward to Sunday and seeing if we can keep ourselves going."
On Sunday (Oct. 9), the Falcons continue a four-match homestand, meeting the University of Akron in a 12:00 p.m. start at Cochrane.
