CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University women's soccer standout Ali Shingler has been named the Mid-American Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Thursday (Nov. 10). Shingler earns the honor for the second time this season.
Shingler, a fifth-year senior goalkeeper, helped the Falcons to three shutouts and a MAC Tournament championship last weekend. A native of Grove City, Ohio (Grove City HS), she had a total of 12 saves in the three matches, and had three more stops of opponent penalty kicks, as two of the Falcons' three contests ended in scoreless overtime ties and required PKs.
Shingler's exploits can be found all over the BGSUFalcons.com web site, as this marks the third award she has received TODAY. Shingler was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week on Thursday morning, and also was one of BGSU's league-high six selections to the Academic All-MAC Team.
Shingler has a perfect 4.00 grade-point average, with a dual major of biology and applied health science.
The women's soccer Falcons, 14-6-2 overall, won both the MAC regular-season and tournament titles. BGSU is in Notre Dame, Ind., preparing for Friday's (Nov. 11) NCAA Championships first-round match vs. Michigan State. The Falcons and Spartans will kick off at 5:00 p.m. EST, with live stats available via GameTracker.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a voting group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
