FALCONS ENDURE GROWING PAINS
The Falcons have entered the 2005-06 season not only with the task of replacing 67% of its scoring output from a year ago, but also dealing with injuries in the preseason that have seen projected Falcon starters miss a combined 10 games. The lack of depth and continuity played a factor in Oakland's 76-66 win at BGSU on Wednesday night. The Falcons had a nine-point first half lead and outrebounded the Grizzlies, 25-15 in the first 20 minutes of the game. In the second half, the Falcons were outrebounded 23-11 and saw the 2005 Mid Continent Conference Champions pull away. It was just the second home loss in 28 games since 1999 against a non-conference foe at home.
LOOKING AT THE POSITIVE
Senior guard Steven Wright has been practicing this week and could dress this weekend. He suffered a broken foot in the preseason and has not played this year. He averaged 11.1 points and 3.1 assists and led the Falcons in steals with 37 a year ago. Junior Martin Samarco is fourth in the MAC in scoring at 17.8 points per game and leads the league in three-point field goals per game at 3.2. Freshman Erik Marschall has scored in double figures in four straight games and is averaging 11.4 points. He also is ranked among the top shooters in the league making 59.5% of his field goal attempts. Senior Mawel Soler is the top shooter in the MAC making 77.3% of his shots. He is averaging 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds and had a career-high 11 rebounds against Oakland. Last year, junior Matt Lefeld scored just 14 points all season, but equaled that in his first game this year against Western Carolina. He had 13 points against Oakland and is averaging 8.3 points. Freshman Darryl Clements had seven points against Oakland and is averaging more than five points per game in his last four contests Junior John Floyd has averaged 11.4 points and sophomore guard Perrick Robinson leads the team in steals with seven. Freshman Dusan Radivojevic saw his first action of the season against Oakland.
