Bowling Green Continues Five-Game Road Swing at Ferris State (Feb. 4-5)
BGSU continues its five-game road swing with two games at Ferris State this weekend (Feb. 4-5). Friday's game is at 7:35 p.m. while Saturday's faceoff is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. Both games can be heard on 88.1 FM with play-by-play from Andy Evans.
Falcons vs. Bulldogs
BGSU leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs, 47-37-10, but are just 17-20-5 in Big Rapids. In fact, BGSU is 0-6-1 in their last seven trips to Ferris State with the last road win coming Feb. 27, 1999 (6-4). Overall, it has been eight games since the Falcons have defeated the Bulldogs (0-7-1) with the last victory coming March 3, 2001, in Bowling Green (2-1).
Against the Bulldogs, SR Steve Brudzewski has 1-2--3 in eight career games, JR Mike Falk has 3-0--3 in six career games, and SR Ryan Minnabarriet has 0-3--3 in eight career games. Only three Falcon upperclassmen have goals against FSU. SR Jordan Sigalet has a 3.68 gaa. and .918 save pct. in six career games.
Joyous January for Falcons
BGSU finished the month of January 4-2-0, moving within two points of fourth place in the CCHA. Several Falcons had a good month, including JR Brett Pilkington (2g, 8a) and FR Alex Foster (1g, 8a). Pilkington moved into the top spot among point scorers for the Falcons with 21 and Foster was named CCHA Rookie of the Week on Jan. 10. Others who had a big part in the Falcons' success during the past month were SR Ryan Minnabarriet (4-4--8), JR Mike Falk (4-3--7), and FR Jonathan Matsumoto (1-6--7). Also, SR Jordan Sigalet played in all six games (357:39) and finished with a 2.18 gaa. and .930 save pct. He allowed just six even-strength goals and held his opponent to two goals or less in four games.
Ice Arena Sees Largest Crowd in Nearly a Decade
The Jan. 28 crowd of 4,956 was the 14th largest ever at the BGSU Ice Arena. The mark was just shy of the 5,000-seat capacity and was the largest crowd at BGSU since Nov. 16, 1996, when 5,016 crammed in to see the Falcons play Michigan (3-3 tie).
Christie Named CCHA Defenseman of the Week
BGSU SR Taylor Christie was named CCHA Defenseman of the Week on Monday, January 31. It was the first time in his career that the Toronto, Ontario, native was tabbed Defenseman of the Week by the league. Christie scored his first collegiate goal in the Jan. 28th 4-1 win over Notre Dame and finished +1 in Saturday's 6-2 road victory over the Irish. For the weekend, Christie had a plus/minus of +3. For the season, the 6-foot-2, 211-pound blueliner has 1-1--2 in 24 games played while seeing time on the BGSU penalty kill unit.
Pilkington "Assisting" the Cause for BGSU
JR Brett Pilkington finished with five assists in the two wins vs. Notre Dame last weekend. He leads the CCHA and is 5th in the country in assists per game (0.95). His team-high 18 assists is a new career-high and his 21 points ties his career-high from last year (10g, 11a) in 36 games. Pilkington has 10 points (2-8--10) in his last six games.
Stormy Causing Some Havic
SR Ryan "Stormy" Minnabarriet ended the weekend vs. Notre Dame with a career-high five points (3g, 2a) for a two-game series. His three goals all came on the power play, finishing with a .750 shooting percentage on just four shot attempts. He had the GWG on Jan. 28 en route to recording his third career two-goal game. The forward has 5-3--8 in his last eight games and is currently riding his second three-game point streak of the year. He was plus-1 in the two games.
