BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Some post-game reactions after the Bowling Green State University women's basketball team's 72-58 victory over visiting Central Michigan University Tuesday night (Feb. 15)...
BGSU COACH Curt Miller
"I have a great deal of respect for Central Michigan. They're deep, they play hard, they have lots of options and they make you work at the offensive end. They make you earn everything that you get, and tonight was no different. I'm pleased with the outcome, because Central's a very, very dangerous team. They are very close to turning the corner in this league, and they don't get blown out by anyone. This 14-point win doesn't look impressive on paper, but it equals their worst loss in conference play. It isn't a blowout, but it is a big win for us, because Central plays everyone tough and keeps the game close."
(On BGSU's three-point shooting success)
"Central is very fundamental, and they are going to take away the inside game and make you beat them from the outside first. We talked, going into this game, about needing good balance with inside-outside scoring. Plus, our team is very prideful, and there is a pride factor after coming off a game where we were shut out from the arc at Akron. I think the kids were determined to make some threes at the beginning of the game, to get that monkey off their back."
(On Casey McDowell)
"Casey hit big shots, that were very, very important for momentum and the confidence of our team. They defended our ball-screens by going under those ball-screens, leaving open shots behind screens. We had to be willing to step up and make some shots behind screens. We worked on that over the last 48 hours, and to Casey's credit, those were huge shots that really gave us a lot of confidence."
BGSU GUARD Casey McDowell
"They (CMU) really try to slow the ball down, and they'll work through the entire shot clock to try to get the best possible shot. We knew if we could keep the game at a higher tempo and try to get it up into the 70s, they probably wouldn't be able to score with us. We just needed to keep it our style of game instead of their style of game."
(On BGSU's hitting some early three-pointers, after going 0-for-13 from three-point range at Akron)
"It was great; it really sparked us. After our streak was broken, of nearly 200 games with a three, it was a point of emphasis to get in the gym and shoot the ball. We knew, if we could get that going, that everything else kind of falls after we get the three-balls going."
"We knew that they would be a tough team. They're scrappy, they play hard, they defend and they really pressure you. Sometimes this year, we have had problems with teams that pressure us. We talked at halftime about working harder to get the ball to the wings. We just had to cut harder, because that was affecting our game. Once again, it was getting back to their style, slowing the game down to where we couldn't get out and run as much."
