"My hat's off to Akron. I thought they were really good. I thought they were tough. The key part of the game in my opinion was the first half where we had a chance with a 10 point lead and playing good defense to control the game a little bit. We didn't and they outscored us by 15 and then we were fighting back. And then the other key was obviously, we get up three with 1:20 to go and we let (Romeo) Travis go to his right shoulder, he just kind of bullied his way, had great determination for a three-point play and then we had seniors mess up on the inbounds against the press. That is just inexcusable. Give them credit, I thought Akron was really tough, played really hard and really well."
on the game's final play...
"We talked about not letting the ball get driven into the middle, talked about not letting (Dru) Joyce go to his right hand and then not getting split and all three happened. John (Floyd) got beat to the middle, John got beat to his right hand and Josh (Almanson) got split. ...You just can't do that. You've got to be there to protect the ball and you can't just let them drive past you and we did. The dribble hurt us. It hurt us in the first half and it hurt again. I thought my kids fought really hard, I thought they competed. We hold their leading scorer to nothing but they had guys step up. (Mario) Collins really stepped up. Travis at the end was kind of dominating the game and Bubba Walther with the two threes in the first half... They outscored us in two areas that just killed us; 27 points off turnovers and 33 bench points and there is your ballgame."
"Germain (Fitch) is not going to play anymore this year. Germain has a torn ACL and unfortunately for all of us, he's finished..."
Akron Head Coach Keith Dambrot
"The win is big for our program. We've talked a lot about beating a good team on the road and winning in a difficult environment. Our guys understood that we had to make that jump in order to be a contending program. From that standpoint the win was big for our program and for our guys."
"It is a rub play where we act like we're cutting to the corner but Dru is trying to go off of Mario's back. We were going to duck Romeo in on the block and have a guy in the corner so if they sucked in at all we could kick it to the corner for the shot or throw the duck in to Romeo. But what happened, Romeo ducked in hard which created a little lane and the guy in the corner kind of stayed with his man which is understandable and Dru just made a good decision and laid it in."
