Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green plated five runs in the second inning and never looked back, posting a 7-1 victory over visiting Eastern Michigan on Friday afternoon at Warren Steller Field. Despite the game being played in Bowling Green, the Falcons were the visiting squad due to the fact the game was originally scheduled for Ypsilanti, Mich. If that wasn't confusing enough, the contest was a non-conference matchup between the two Mid-American Conference opponents, as well.
Senior Burke Badenhop (4-0) pitched seven strong innings in the blustery winds, allowing no runs on just three hits with five strikeouts and two walks. The four wins already match his career-best from his freshman campaign and he now holds a 2.35 ERA in 23 innings pitched this season.
BGSU's five-run second inning began with a single by Josh Dietz. Bobby Majer then beat out a bunt to the third base side and Kevin Longstreth moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Sophomore Eric Lawson promptly doubled them both in for a 2-0 Falcon lead. After a fly out and an intentional walk to Nolan Reimold, senior Andy Hudak singled up the middle to plate Lawson from second base for a 3-0 advantage. Josh Stewart then singled to right field, scoring Reimold. But, the ball went between the fielder's legs and allowed Hudak to score, as well, and move Stewart all the way to third base.
BGSU put two more runs on the board in the third inning on a Lawson groundout and a Jeff Warnock single. EMU's Matt Moffett homered off of reliever Adam Gumpf with one out in the ninth inning for the lone Eagle run.
BGSU improves to 10-2 while EMU drops to 3-12. The two teams continue their three-game series at Warren Steller Field tomorrow, Saturday, at 1 p.m.
