Elste And Guyer Named To The All-MAC Academic Squad

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior Kari Elste and junior Jessica Guyer, both members of the BGSU gymnastics team, were named to the All-MAC Academic team according to the Mid-American Conference this afternoon. Both gymnasts carry 4.00 grade-point averages.
Elste, a native of Wheaton, Illinois, owns a perfect 4.00 GPA and is majoring in health science. The senior was named MAC Specialist of the Week twice this season, when she posted a career-high and school record tying 9.950 on the bars versus Southeast Missouri State and Wisconsin Oshkosh, helping the Falcons establish a new school record team score of 196.100. She earned her second award with a first-place finish on the bars in a win over Ball State.
Guyer, a native of Columbus, Ohio, will be serving as an alternate this weekend at the NCAA Regionals in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on both the floor and vault. The junior also owns a perfect 4.00 GPA and is majoring in biology. This season alone Guyer has registered 11 first-place finishes. She finished first on the floor exercise five times throughout the year including a career-high 9.950 versus Southeast Missouri State and a 9.900 against Western Michigan. She also has four first-place finishes on the vault, including a 9.825 vs. SEMO and 9.775's versus Eastern Michigan and Ball State. She was named MAC Specialist of the Week once, where she finished first on the floor and beam against Western Michigan.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
