BGSU Makes It Two At Home

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University made it two in a row at home as they knocked off Illinois State University 189.100-187.500. Junior Jillian Stranges gave the Falcons the advantage with a fourth on the vault (9.500) and second place routine on the beam (9.550).
"Jillian did a really nice job for us tonight ," said head coach Dan Connelly.
The Orange and Brown fell behind early as they opened the meet on the vault. Pacing the Falcons was Jayme Stambaugh (9.675) second place finish. Also finishing in the Top Five was Allison Swafford (9.650), Stranges (9.500), and Jenna Wirtanen (9.450). The Falcons would trail by .275 after the first event.
Marie-Eve Boisvert finished second with a score of 9.600 and was the lone Top Five finisher on the bars.
Led by former MAC Specialist of The Week, Bethany Kenel, who scored a 9.675, the Falcons would occupy the Top Three. Stranges took second, and Jessica Bradley finished third with a score of 9.500.
Connelly was very pleased with the team's performance on beam this week and especially with Kenel.
"Bethany is doing a great job for us on beam right now, and we are going to need her to continue to stick them," said Connelly.
BGSU would head to the last event trailing by .625 of a point and would have to perform solid routines on the floor to win the meet.
Jacquelyn Bernhardt would drill a solid performance to score 9.625 and win the floor. Candice Deacon also performed well to tie for fourth with a 9.550.
BGSU will return next Saturday February 4 to host Mid American Conference opponent Northern Illinois University.
Connelly said," If we are going to have a shot at winning the MAC we need to win next week. The support of the fans has been the best ever this year, and next week we would like to see it continue."
