BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Sophomore Brianne Eisenhard and freshman Faith Juillerat scored second-half goals, and junior Tiffany Hansen and the Bowling Green State University defense posted a shutout in a 2-0 Falcon win over Miami University Sunday afternoon (Oct. 1). The Mid-American Conference game was held at BGSU's Cochrane Field.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 6-6-0 overall. More importantly, BGSU is now 3-1-0 in MAC play this season. The RedHawks drop to 4-6-1 and 1-2-1, respectively.
The victory gives the Falcons nine points in MAC play this season to date. Through two weekends of MAC action, the Falcons are tied for second place with Ohio and Kent State, three points behind 4-0 Ball State.

The first chance of the match came with approximately 21 minutes left in the opening half. Falcon junior Tiernay Tilford crossed the ball from the right side of the field, and Miami goalkeeper Krista Pace bobbled the ball. Juniors Gina Rossi and Danielle Cygan were in the middle of the ensuing flurry, but neither player was able to get a clean shot at the ball in traffic, and Pace was able to make a save and end the threat.
Four minutes later, sophomore Corbie Yee tracked down a long cross and made a pass to senior Lindsay Carter, who was heading left-to-right across the top of the penalty box. Carter's shot, however, was high.
The RedHawks' best chance of the first half, and perhaps of the game, came with just 15 seconds remaining before the intermission. MU's Allison Berkey took a pass across the 18-yard box and fired a spinning ball that went just over the net.
The teams combined for just a single shot on goal in the scoreless first half.
In the second period, the visitors carried the play for the first few minutes, but could not put a shot on goal. The 'Hawks saw shots by Kathleen Vistica and Berkey go wide of the mark within 40 seconds of one another, and a Danielle Hays shot several minutes later was blocked by a BG defender.
Just before the Hays shot, the Falcons had had a chance. Off of a Carter corner kick, the Miami defense attempted to clear the ball, but it went to junior Janie Babich. Her header, however, was right at Pace, who gathered it on one hop.
With under 20 minutes remaining and the match still scoreless, Yee made a long run down the field. She was knocked off the ball, but Tilford appeared seemingly out of nowhere and fired a shot. Pace, however, was able to grab that ball as it headed toward the far corner of the net.
Several minutes, the Falcons had another chance off of a Carter corner kick, but several players just missed getting a foot on the ball during a scrum in the box. During a similar high-traffic situation in the Miami end a few minutes after that, Pace was able to block a shot by freshman Colleen Kordan out of bounds for a corner kick.
Thirty seconds later, though, the Falcons were on the scoreboard. Freshman Stacey Lucas took a left-side cross and fired a turnaround shot that blooped over Pace and hit the crossbar. The ball bounded back to the charging Eisenhard, who -- with Pace out of position due to a diving effort to save the Lucas shot -- calmly settled the ball and deposited it into the lower left corner of the net. Lucas had the lone assist on the goal, which came with 10:59 left in regulation.
BGSU kept forcing the play, and had several more shots over the next few minutes. Yee took an Eisenhard pass, whirled and fired just high of the net with 5:15 left. Seconds later, a Yee pass was deflected right to Juillerat, whose shot sailed just to the outside of the left post.
With 4:11 on the clock, however, Juillerat gave the Falcons some insurance. She came in from the right side and took a shot from about 10 yards out. Pace was able to stick her arm out and make the save, but the deflection rolled slowly toward the goal line. Pace lunged toward the net in an attempt to grab the ball, but a Miami defender got there first and tried to clear it out of danger. The ball, though, caromed off of Pace and trickled along the end line. Juillerat, who had followed her own shot, easily put the ball in the back of the net from approximately a yard out.
BGSU held advantages of 14-9 in shot attempts and 7-1 in shots on goal. Hansen was called upon to make just one save in earning the complete-game shutout, while Pace made five stops for the RedHawks.
BGSU had a season-high nine corner kicks while allowing just one.
"The fans who turned out for today's game saw a classic MAC encounter," said BGSU head coach Andy Richards. "It had all the excitement and passion of a tight conference game. Both teams made some adjustments during the game, which required some adjustments in return (by the other team), and it was just a great all-around advertisement for MAC soccer.
"We are very happy with the result, against a team that I have an enormous amount of respect for in Miami. It was great to see Brianne Eisenhard get her first collegiate goal, and (to see) a very excitable celebration that followed. Faith Juillerat also did very well to get her second goal in as many weeks, and she provided a level of comfort that we needed in the late stages of the game.
"We are very excited with the win, and another valuable three points in the MAC. Credit should go to all of the members of the team for their preparation this week, and also for the way they bounced back after Friday's disappointment vs. Ball State. They really rallied well and played tremendously well today.
"Credit must also go to (assistant) coach (Erik) Burstein, who has been working very hard with our goalkeepers and our defenders. He deserves a lot of credit for the three shutouts that we have earned in the last four games.
"Overall, it was a brilliant display and a great MAC game, and we hope that we can continue to make forward strides."
After playing the first four MAC matches at home, the Falcons now hit the road for the next four league contests. The road swing begins with a Friday (Oct. 6) game at Ohio University, with kickoff set for 4:00 p.m.
NOTES
* Sophomore Brianne Eisenhard's goal was the first of her collegiate career ... obviously, it was her first game-winning goal as a Falcon.
* Junior Tiffany Hansen now has posted five complete-game shutouts in this, her first season with the Falcons ... that ties her for third on the BGSU single-season list ... the school record for shutouts in a season by a goalkeeper is seven, amassed by Erika Flanders in 2002 and matched by Ali Shingler last year.
* Three of Hansen's shutouts have come in MAC action ... she has a goals-against average of just 0.50 in conference play to date.
* Eleven of this season's 12 games have resulted in shutouts, with the Falcons on the winning side in six of those games.
* Last season, just like this year, the Falcons ended the month of September with a loss to Ball State, but began October with a win over Miami ... for the 2005 team, that victory over the RedHawks began an eight-game winning streak that led BG to the MAC's regular-season title.
* Freshman Faith Juillerat's goal vs. MU on Sunday was her second of the season ... she is tied for the team lead with classmate Stacey Lucas and junior Danielle Cygan.
* Lucas picked up her second assist of the fall on the Eisenhard goal ... Lucas, as mentioned, is tied for the BG lead in goals ... she is also tied with Cygan for the team lead in assists (2) and points (6).
* Miami holds an 8-5-0 lead in the all-time series with BGSU .... but, the Falcons now have won five consecutive games vs. the RedHawks after dropping the first eight series meetings.
