Recognized by the Nation
Falcon Volleyball recorded votes in the latest CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, released October 16th. With five points, the Falcons rank 35th in the country. It's Bowling Green's first appearance in the poll since 1991.
"It's great for the program and the conference to be mentioned in the poll this week," said Head Coach Denise Van De Walle. "It's great to have two teams in the poll. Maybe this will help turn some heads as to just how good the MAC really is."
MAC Honors Gothke With Weekly Award Again
Senior captain Chrissy Gothke helped the Falcons extend their current winning streak to 14 matches, the longest in BGSU history, this week after recording a pair of sweeps of Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. Gothke did it all as she recorded 13 kills, 75 assists, two service aces, 20 digs and two blocks over the six-game stretch. The Whitehouse, Ohio native rose to the occasion against EMU and lifted Bowling Green to victory as the rest of the offense struggled. In that contest, Gothke came up just one kill shy of recording a triple-double out of the setter position, hitting .421. She averaged over 13 assists a game in the win over Central Michigan.
She also took home the award back on Sept. 4th. Gothke was the catalyst for the Falcon offense which hit .257 during the three-match stretch. As the setter and only senior of the squad, Gothke's 11.89 assists/game guided BGSU to a "weekend sweep," winning nine games and dropping zero to take the tournament crown in Denver, Colorado. The Whitehouse, Ohio native racked up triple-digit assists (107) in just nine games over the weekend.
Making Her Mark in Falcon Volleyball History
Senior Chrissy Gothke moved passed Holli Costein (1989-92) for second place all-time in career digs this weekend. With 20 digs in a pair of sweeps over Central and Eastern Michigan, her career total increased to 1,352 digs. Gothke now trails only Susie Norris's 1,596 career digs for the all-time high. If the season were to end today, she would also notch her name in the record books with a .277 career hitting percentaage, the seventh best in Falcon history.
