Van De Walle Takes on Alma Mater
#3 Bowling Green will face #6 Ball State after the Cardinals escaped a five-game scare against #11 Buffalo in the first round Tuesday night. BGSU swept the previous match this season as Stephanie Swiger totaled 18 kills at a .500 pace.
Meek Close to The Peak
Sophomore Chelsey Meek needs just 29 more digs this season to set the all-time high (497) in Bowling Green history, she currently has 478 digs. Her current pace of 5.09 digs per game would obliterate Susie Norris' (2000) 4.28 average, the highest in Falcon history. The Falcons' libero has recorded double-digit digs in every match this season except one, in which she fell just one shy with nine digs.
Making Her Mark in Falcon Volleyball History
Senior Chrissy Gothke moved passed Holli Costein (1989-92) for second place all-time in career digs on Oct. 14 with 20 digs in a pair of sweeps over Central and Eastern Michigan. Her career total is up to 1,437 digs. Gothke now trails only Susie Norris's 1,596 career digs for the all-time high. If the season were to end today, she would also notch her name in the record books with a .273 career hitting efficiency, the eighth best in Falcon history. With 21 assists, Bowling Green's lone senior will climb a notch (6th place) on the all-time assists ladder as well. Her 2,626 successful sets currently put her seventh place with a realistic shot of moving up to fifth by the end of the season.
