BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - As the middle of the week approaches, Bowling Green women's track and field prepares for final tune ups. The Falcons will play host to the 2006 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday in Perry Fieldhouse.
The two women leading the way for the Falcons are junior Jessica White and sophomore Jamie Roflow. White will contend for the sprints, while Roflow will contend for the longer distance races.
White, the top sprinter for the Falcons for the past two seasons, is currently ranked third in MAC standings in the 60-meter dash. She set a school- record of 7.53 seconds in the event at the All-Ohio Championships almost two weeks ago. White is also a 200-meter specialist, ranked thirteenth in the MAC with a time of 24.90 seconds.
Roflow is sitting pretty, as she is ranked fourth in the 3,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 9:43.15 and third in the 5,000-meter run, also a Personal-best of 16:57.05. Roflow has been the top distance runner for the Falcons this season and Friday and Saturday should be no different as Roflow will try to contend for several spots on the medal stand.
The throwing tandems of Whitney Hartman, Paris Bussey, Takara Dunning, and Lauren Bryant will try to contend for a spot on the awards podium as well. The trio of Bussey, Dunning and Hartman has done well this season for the shot put, as they are currently ranked 8-9-15 respectively in MAC standings. In the women's weight throw, it is likely to be the trio of Hartman, Bussey and Bryant who have all set personal-records this season in the event.
Another contending group for the Falcons will be the Distance Medlay Relay. They are currently ranked fifth in MAC standings, but is looking to move up.
With three days left until competition begins at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, the Falcons will wind down their final preparations for the meet.
