AKRON, Ohio - In what seems to be déjà vu, junior Caroline Keating has once again broken a BGSU school record in the 500 Freestyle while securing a spot on the medal stand at the Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. Last season Keating finished in 4:54.53 breaking the 16-year record of 4:54.59 set by Andrea Szekely in 1989. Today, Keating topped the record books once again, with her 4:54.32 third place finish in the 500 Free. The finish marks a new personal best for the Cincinnati native.
On the day, the Orange and Brown saw four Top Five finishes in the scheduled six events.
Senior Stephanie Buckner fell just out of medal contention with her fourth place finish in the 50 Free (23.99) while the 200 Free (1:35.58) and 400 Medley (3:52.84) Relays placed fifth.
The Falcons are currently in fifth place after one day of competition with 112 points. The Eagles of Eastern Michigan have a commanding lead with 228 total points, including six medal finishers.
Day two will begin on the campus of Akron University with preliminary events starting at 11:00 a.m. then moving into the three-meter diving preliminaries at 2:30 p.m. Opening ceremonies will begin at 6:50 p.m and will be followed by the finals at 7:00 p.m.
