ATHENS, Ohio - Quoting Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Curt Miller after the Falcons' 65-61 win over Ohio University Saturday afternoon (Feb. 25) at `The Convo' ...
"It was one of those grind-it-out games that you typically see at this time of year. Both teams played very hard and were really aggressive. Both teams defended well and made each other work on every possession."
"I'm very proud of our kids in that - playing under the weather and without one of our most explosive players - we found a way to win. Ohio is a scary team; they are loaded with incredibly talented young players, and they are going to be fun to watch over the next few years. I can't say enough about our kids to be able to find a way to win once again."
(With your team struggling at the free-throw line today, what were you talking about during the timeouts late in the game?)
"We tried not to talk about the free-throw line very often. We talked about trying to get stops. But, we're normally a good foul-shooting team, so certainly, it was distressing to those of us on the bench, that we made it harder than it needed to be. But, again, I'm proud of our kids to find a way to win."
(After clinching the East Division Wednesday night, was it difficult to motivate your team for these last few games?)
"No, because we feel there are still some things to play for. We would like to be able to have the best overall record in the MAC. We want to keep our hopes alive, depending upon what happens, to be considered as an at-large team (for the NCAA Tournament). So, we feel like we still have some things to play for. What has hampered us is that we couldn't practice Thursday, because of the amount of sick players. At halftime, we had a number of people who were getting sick. But, we still have a lot to play for. The number-one thing is that we have got to find a way to peak going into the MAC Tournament. We are not playing our best basketball yet; we think we still have things we can improve upon."
