BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's soccer program has been listed as one of the most improved teams in the nation. The NCAA recently released the list of the Division I schools that made the most improvement from 2004 to 2005.
The Falcons of head coach Andy Richards made an improvement of 4.5 games, going 14-7-2 in 2005 after a 10-12-2 mark the previous fall. That tied BGSU for 24th on the list.
Nevada and Western Carolina topped the chart, each improving by 8.5 games over the 2004 season. BGSU was the only Mid-American Conference team on the list.
"We are very proud of our success," said Richards. "This is another testament to our program and the abilities of our players, in particular the seniors who ended their careers with back-to-back MAC Tournament titles."
The BGSU men's soccer program also was one of the most-improved teams in the country, making Bowling Green one of just four Division-I schools (Fairfield, Niagara, Sacramento State) to be cited on both lists.
Richards and the Falcon women won the MAC's regular-season title, the first in school history, with a 9-2-0 league record in 2005. BGSU then won the MAC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season.
