Bowling Green, Ohio - The following are post game notes after the conclusion of Wednesday night's game against Miami.
Team Notes
The Falcons connected on five three-pointers and now hold the all-time single season mark with 209. The record was previously held by the 1996-97 squad who made 204.
BGSU has led in every MAC game this season. The Falcons led 5- 3 early in the game and then were able to cut the deficit to one, 47-46, with just 8:49 remaining in the game on a free throw by point guard John Floyd.
Individual Notes
Junior Martin Samarco scored a game-high 24 points and eclipsed the 500-point mark for the season. He is the 21st player in BGSU history to produce 500 or more points in a season. The JUCO All-American also hit three triples and now has 97 on the year, good for fourth all-time in the MAC. He is now just one behind Marshall's Ronald Blackshear for third all-time. It is the 12th time this year that the Ypsilanti, Mich. native has scored 20 or more points.
At halftime, the BGSU Athletic Department recognized 186 student- athletes who posted a 3.0 GPA or higher in the Fall of 2005. Junior Matt Lefeld was recognized for his 3.96 overall grade- point average and has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-District member. The Coldwater, Ohio native is looking to become the first men's basketball player to be named an Academic All- American since Steve Martenet was recognized in 1988. For the game, the 6-foot-11 center scored three points and four rebounds in 17 minutes of action.
Senior Mawel Soler contributed 10 points in his final home game as a Falcon. It is the third game in a row and the 10th time this season that he has scored in double-digits. In his last three games he is averaging 12 points.
Freshman Erik Marschall turned in another positive performance, scoring seven points and ripping down six rebounds in 32 minutes. He is now averaging 7.2 points and 4.4 rebounds on the year.
Sophomore Moon Robinson scored three points and added four assists. The 5-foot-9 guard was once again credited for his excellent performance on the defensive end.
Freshman Brian Guerin set new career-highs in points scored and made his first three pointer of the season. The Hudson, Ohio product has average 7.5 minutes over his last two games.
