BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green will open up Warren E. Steller field for the first time in 2006 this afternoon. The Falcons and Oakland Golden Grizzlies are scheduled to take the field at 2:00 PM.
A Look at the Grizzlies
Oakland is coming off a three-loss weekend at Cincinnati. Kevin Carkeek leads the Grizzly offensive attack, starting all 13 games with a .300 batting average with two homeruns and nine RBI. Despite a .154 average, the Falcon pitching staff must also be aware of Chad Winkler and his two homeruns and eight RBI.
Road Sweet Road?
Bowling Green may feel like a traveling circus by the time they play their first home game at Warren E. Steller Field this season, because they will be on the road for their first 16 games of the season. The Falcons will finally return home to on March 22 to take on the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland University.
Sizzling Stewart
Junior Josh Stewart is one of the most versatile players in the Mid-American Conference, starting at catcher and the outfield this season. Stewart is a five-tool player, hitting .370 with a homerun and .537 slugging percentage. The Dayton, Ohio native has shown his speed on the base paths with six stolen bases on six attempts and legging out two triples on the young season. He owns a .978 fielding percentage despite playing the dual role defensively.
MAC Daddys
Senior Tyler Wasserman and Junior Alan Brech find themselves at the top of several categories in the Mid-American Conference. Wasserman's league-leading .425 batting average is 21 percentage points higher than the next closest. Brech holds the second lowest ERA (1.80) and opponent batting average (.209) in the MAC.
