DAYTON, Ohio - The host University of Dayton broke open a scoreless match with three goals in an eight-minute span late in the first half, and the Flyers went on to a 5-0 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team. The exhibition match was held Friday night (Aug. 18).
UD's Alli Foust got her team on the scoreboard with 34:37 elapsed, and Anne Mariscalco and Jaime Monahan would find the back of the net before halftime. The Flyers scored a pair of second-half markers to provide the final margin.
UD held a 25-6 advantage in shot attempts, including a 13-0 margin in the first half. Nikki Reed and Tasha Dittamore each had one save in 45 minutes of action in net for the home side.
Junior transfer Tiffany Hansen and sophomore Christy Zabek each played one half of the match (contrary to what the stats might say), combining for a total of 11 saves.
A total of 21 different players, including eight freshmen, saw action in the match for the Falcons. Bowling Green will begin the 2006 regular season with a trip to Wisconsin for the Milwaukee Cup, taking on Marquette (Aug. 25) and UW-Milwaukee (Aug. 27).
