BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, after seeing several lengthy streaks come to an end, looks to begin a few new streaks this weekend ... the Falcons of head coach Andy Richards have played four non-conference contests, and have four games remaining before opening the Mid-American Conference portion of the schedule ... BG will conclude a three-match homestand with a Friday (Sept. 8) game vs. Youngstown State University at Cochrane Field ... BGSU, the 2005 MAC regular-season and tournament champions, will meet the Penguins in a 5:00 p.m. kickoff ... then, the Brown and Orange will take to the road for a Sunday (Sept. 10) match vs. Eastern Illinois University ... starting time for that match is 1:00 p.m. locally (2:00 p.m. Eastern) at Lakeside Field in Charleston, Ill.

SHUTOUT STREAK COMES TO AN END
The Falcons saw two impressive streaks come to an end in Sunday's (Sept. 3) 2-0 loss to Western Illinois ... BGSU's home shutout streak came to an end just eight days shy of a year, as the Falcons allowed a goal at Cochrane Field for the first time since Sept. 11, 2005 ... BG kept opponents off the scoreboard for a span of 946:02 ... the list of games and results during that span ...

HOME UNBEATEN STREAK SNAPPED, TOO
The Falcons also saw the team's home unbeaten streak come to an end at a school-record 10 matches ... the WIU match marked BGSU's first home loss in over a year, since a setback to Wright State on Aug. 28, 2005 ... the Brown and Orange had been 8-0-2 at home during that streak.
MORE ON THE SHUTOUT STREAK THAT WAS
* The Falcons' shutout streak, snapped against Western Illinois, included a school-record nine consecutive shutouts at Cochrane ... prior to that streak, BGSU had never before recorded more than two-straight shutouts at home.
* During that streak, the Falcons had scored 19 unanswered goals at home before WIU's Misako Inaba found the back of the net on Sunday.
* Prior to last season, and the beginning of the nine-match shutout streak, the Falcons had never recorded more than three shutouts in any home season ... BG recorded a total of 16 shutouts at Cochrane in the program's first eight years, prior to stringing together eight-straight shutouts at home last fall, and adding a ninth consecutive whitewashing on Friday (Sept. 1) vs. Xavier.
MAC STREAKS CONTINUE, THOUGH
* The Falcons' home unbeaten and home shutout streaks vs. MAC foes still exist, and will last until at least Sept. 22 (the league opener against Northern Illinois) ... BGSU has not lost at home to a MAC school since Oct. 10, 2004, a 2-1 loss to Ball State ... the Falcons are unbeaten in the last nine matches at home vs. conference foes, having gone 6-0-3 in that span ... that includes three matches in the 2005 MAC Tournament.
* BGSU has not allowed a goal to a conference rival at Cochrane since Oct. 24, 2004 ... in that match, the Falcons' final home game of the '04 season, BG trailed by a 2-0 score with less than 14 minutes remaining in regulation, before rallying for a 2-2 tie ... the Falcons' home shutout streak stands at 720:52 heading into the NIU game ... in 2005, the Brown and Orange went 5-0-2 vs. league opponents at Cochrane ... the Falcons have scored 13 unanswered goals vs. MAC foes at home.
LAST WEEKEND
The Falcons split a pair of matches to open the home portion of the schedule ... the Brown and Orange picked up a 1-0, double-overtime win over Xavier on Friday (Sept. 1) ... freshman Kayleigh Zajaros scored her first collegiate goal to give the home team the win, while junior Tiffany Hansen had 10 saves in earning her first shutout as a Falcon and the third complete-game shutout of her collegiate career ... two days later, as mentioned, the Brown and Orange suffered a 2-0 loss to Western Illinois to end the team's school-record home unbeaten and home shutout streaks.
HEAD COACH Andy Richards
Andy Richards is in his seventh season as a collegiate head coach, all with the Falcons ... the 2005 MAC Coach of the Year, Richards led the Brown and Orange to both the MAC's regular-season and tourney titles last fall ... he has an overall record of 62-62-12, including a MAC Tournament mark of 8-3-3 ... Richards has led BG to the five finest seasons in school history in his tenure, including '05, as he guided the Falcons to the first regular-season title in BG annals ... he has led BGSU to the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament on five occasions, to the championship match four times, and, in 2004, to the first league tourney title and NCAA Tournament berth in school history ... Richards and the Falcons repeated that feat last year, as BGSU again won the MAC Tournament crown ... Erik Burstein is in his first season with the program, while Ashley Wentzel, a co-captain on the 2005 team, is in her first season as a student assistant coach.
THE OPPONENTS / THE SERIES
Youngstown State is 1-3 on the season after splitting a pair of matches last weekend ... the Penguins picked up a 1-0 home win over Canisius before losing at Saint Francis (Pa.), 2-0 ... junior Brittny Humphrey and freshman Jordan Gapczynski have accounted for the team's two goals this season ... freshman Caitlin Bodzioney has played every minute in goal, and has a goals-against average of 1.50 ... third-year head coach Anthony James welcomed back 15 letterwinners, including eight starters, from last year's team that finished 1-18-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the Horizon League.
Eastern Illinois has a record of 2-1-1, heading into a Friday match vs. Eastern Michigan ... the Panthers played a pair of double-overtime matches at home over the weekend, tying DePaul, 1-1, before posting a 2-1 victory over Loyola (Ill.) ... junior Michelle Steinhaus leads EIU with two goals, and has taken 20 of the team's 51 shot attempts on the year ... freshman goalie Jenny Williams has played every second, and has a 1.14 GAA ... a year ago, the Panthers went 9-10-2 overall, and finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 6-1-2 league mark ... the team fell just a game shy of advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth year in a row ... head coach Tim Nowak, in his second year at EIU, has 15 returning letterwinners, including four starters.
The Falcons hold a 2-0-0 lead over Youngstown State in the all-time series between the teams, with both prior matches coming at Cochrane Field ... the Brown and Orange picked up a 7-2 victory in the program's initial year, 1997, then recorded a 10-1 win four years later ... BG trails Eastern Illinois, 2-1-1, in that series ... the Falcons' lone win in the series came last year, a 2-1 overtime triumph on Sept. 11, 2005 ... Leah Eggleton scored the match-winning goal in that contest, which began the Falcons' school-record 10-match home unbeaten streak ... EIU is 1-0-1 vs. the Falcons in matches in Charleston ... the teams are meeting for the fifth consecutive year.
WORKING OVERTIME
The win over Xavier gives the Falcons an all-time record of 12-11-16 in overtime matches ... even after Friday's win, BG is just 5-9-8 in contests that have gone to OT ... but, the Falcons are unbeaten in the last six OT contests at Cochrane ... overall, BG is unbeaten in the last eight overtime matches, having gone 3-0-5 since an OT loss to Ohio State on Oct. 31, 2003 ... the Falcons have never lost a road OT match, having gone 5-0-7 on opposing soil ... BGSU is 2-2-1 in neutral-site OT affairs, and 2-2-3 in MAC Tournament contests that require overtime ... the Falcons advanced via penalty kicks in all three of those ties.
ZABEK'S STREAK CONTINUES
A personal shutout streak continues for sophomore Christy Zabek ... Zabek has not allowed a goal in the five career matches in which she has seen action ... she has played a total of 119:02 ... Zabek had three saves on Sunday after making one during all of last season.
HOME IS WHERE THE GAMES ARE
The Falcons' 2006 schedule includes a school record-tying 11 home contests ... BGSU will play four of eight non-conference games at Cochrane Field ... additionally, seven of September's nine matches are at home ... after playing just four of 11 MAC matches at home last year, the Brown and Orange will meet seven of the 11 league foes inside the friendly confines of Cochrane Field.
YOUTH IS SERVED
In all four 2006 matches to date, the BGSU starting lineup has included at least three freshmen ... junior transfer Tiffany Hansen has started all four matches in goal, giving the Brown and Orange at least four newcomers in the starting lineup in every match.
THE FALCONS ARE ...
* 81-96-16 all-time, four matches into the 10th season in program history;
* 40-47-11 in Mid-American Conference regular-season matches;
* 25-22-4 overall and 18-7-4 vs. MAC schools over the last two-plus seasons (including regular-season and tournament matches);
* 29-39-6 in the month of September through the years;
* 5-5-0 in home openers.
THE 2006 CAPTAINS
Senior Lindsay Carter and junior Janie Babich are the co-captains of the 2006 Falcons ... Carter, the team's lone senior, is also the squad's active career scoring leader, entering the season with 18 points in her first three years ... Babich, like Carter, was a starter on last year's MAC regular-season and tournament championship club.
FALCONS PICKED THIRD
The Falcons have been picked to finish third in the MAC in 2006, according to the preseason coaches poll ... the third-place prediction is the highest spot ever forecasted for the Brown and Orange in school history ... Central Michigan was picked to win the MAC regular-season and tournament titles, while Western Michigan was tabbed to finish second in the regular-season race ... following BGSU, Miami was picked for fourth, followed by Kent State and Toledo ... Ball State and Eastern Michigan were projected to tie for seventh, followed by Ohio, Northern Illinois, Buffalo and Akron.
THOSE WHO STAY PLAY FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
The BGSU women's soccer program is in its 10th season in 2006 ... through the first nine years, every player who has stayed with the program all four years has been a part of at least one team that has advanced to the MAC Tournament's championship match.
