OPENING STATEMENT
"Give credit to Alaska, they came out and fore-checked well on us and put pressure on us. We felt good after getting out of that 1-0 deficit in the start of the second period. I thought we maintained some pretty good play in the second period, but we just took too many penalties in the third period. I thought we had the game back in our favor and thought we could have gained some tremendous momentum after killing the first 5-on-3 and took another penalty. Penalties clearly hurt us tonight."
Can you talk about the two 5-on-3 penalty kills?
"We were close. They got the 5-on-3 and I thought we did a tremendous job with Jimmy's [Spratt] saves and the blocked shots. We were really getting an energized bench and then we take a bad penalty and it's two quick goals. Any momentum that we were going to have went the other way. Give credit to Alaska they capitalized and scored on their power play chances."
Can you talk about the difference between your play in the first and second periods?
"I think they [Alaska] had a lot to do with it. They fore-checked extremely well and took away the wall on us and forced a lot of turnovers. I thought we made the necessary adjustments and got things going. Obviously the goals gave us a spark, but it's hard for us to be successful if we're killing twice the amount of penalties."
Do you think you did a good job of keeping Kyle Greentree at bay?
"I think he's a dangerous player and strong out there. We had a few match-ups there for a while, unfortunately because of the score we couldn't keep that going. It's something that we were able to do at home, getting match-ups, but he's really a terrific player."
Can you talk about the penalty kill?
"The first power play goal they had, they were able to get it down low and it was an outnumbered situation. We were just a step slow in our recovery. Same thing with the back door goal on the 5-on-3 we just didn't recover quick enough."
Alaska seemed to be in the right place at the right time on a few of their goals. What are your thoughts on those goals?
"I thought they played well. They moved well and moved to those positions. Pucks didn't come to them but the moved well to get there."
Tommy Dee
"It was rough because we were moving the puck so well and we worked so hard to battle to kill off the 5-on-3 and we took some bad penalties and went back into the box to put ourselves in a bad situation. For our penalty killers to kill a 5-on-3 and go back to another 5-on-3, it came back and hurt us in the end."
How did you guys get the game back in your favor?
"It took one spark and Matsumoto made it happen. He came down the right side and put it in the back of the net. A goal is the biggest spark you can give a team. We were the line to follow that and we just wanted to follow it up with a good shift, and it happened again. We scored another goal and it got our team going a little bit. We got back on track and back in the thick of things."
