Recap | Final Stats | Notes
Coach Dan Dakich What was the end of the game like?
"We were jumping up and down celebrating, and the next thing I saw was the ball through the air, and I thought they were going to lay it in. I turned and hit the chair thinking the game is over and we just lost. Then the ball goes out of bounds and we get the ball back."
Talk about Samarco
"Forty-three points, wow! We were playing undermanned with two starters out and what a gutsy day he had."
"I can't say enough about our guys. They have had a tough week. We were off for about ten minuets in the middle of the game but our guys stepped up and that's great for us."
Talk about Brian Guerin
"He was absolutely off the charts. His toughness and hustle enabled us to stay in the game. He had 10 points and 10 assists for a double-double. Had you told me that he would be a kid who would have a double-double in his collegiate career, you could have won a lot of money off of me when I first say him play with his shaggy hair and goatee. Also, Otis Polk changed the game defensively. They called time-out and set up a play to run a back screen where Otis got caught to come in a block the shot. I think it might have been the biggest play other than Samarco's shot."
They got back into the game based on their defense, what are your thoughts on their play?
"I thought their defense was fantastic and we just stood around and it shook up us. It was like a baseball player who strikes out and takes that to the outfield with him. When we were playing bad offensively we were taking that frustration to the defensive side of the game. That can not be done. If one side is not going in basketball then you have to play the other side and we just did not. That is how the game got away from us. There was a 27 or 28 point swing in the game and we were awful during that stretch."
How did you use Bland to cover UB's Eric Moore?
"Finally, someone understood to stick with him. I about lost it in the first half when we missed two scouting points on Moore and he hit two three's. This was something that I stopped our walk though last night and personally demonstrated and we hadn't pick up on it at that point in the game."
On the last shot
"I did not know there was three seconds on the shot clock until one of my teammates yelled it out to me. In the huddle, I told Coach I was going for the win but he said we would just draw a play up. When the play did not work, I came to the ball and I knew I was going to make it. What was stuck on my mind was last year. I missed a three to send the Buffalo game into overtime and I was not going to let that happen again this year.
On his shooting for the night
"I started getting comfortable when they were going for my shot fake early. But this all started in practice as were prepared for this game. I just got of to a good start and kept rolling with it."
On the last three seconds
"It was very confusing. I thought I made the shot but then I saw one of the Buffalo players going down court and I just started sprinting as fast as I could to catch him. Thank God they overthrew the ball."
On his performance
"Basically, I just wanted to play my role. I brought the ball in fast, like Coach always tells us, and I looked for Samarco and saw some action from the help side with people like Nate Miller when they were open. Also I just hit the open shot when I had it."
Buffalo Coach Reggie Witherspoon
Talk about that last shot by Samarco.
"He made a good shot. We tried to make it tough on him; we just didn't make it tough enough."
Has it been a while since you have seen two individual performances like that from Moore and Samarco?
"Yes, they both shot the ball well."
What did you guys do to get back into the game after BGSU went up?
"We started to play a little harder and less hesitant. They also missed a few shots that they seemed to make down the stretch. Our defense was also a little bit more aggressive.?
