On a daily basis, one can make their way through Bowling Green and find numerous examples of Falcon Pride flying high in the sky in the form of flags...Bowling Green, OH that is.
However, it's not every day in Bowling Green, KY that one can find the same...at City Hall no less! That is indeed the case beginning yesterday afternoon, as Bowling Green, KY Mayor Elaine Walker made good on a "friendly wager" between herself and Bowling Green, OH Mayor John Quinn surrounding last weekend's BG-WKU Homecoming football game at Doyt Perry Stadium on the BGSU Campus.
The "Battle of the Bowling Greens Mayoral Challenge" was issued by Quinn last week prior to the BG-Western Kentucky game in which the Falcons of Bowling Green, OH defeated the Hilltoppers of Bowling Green, KY by a final score of 41-21.
Quinn was originally presented the concept by BGSU Athletics Director of Marketing & Promotions, Brian Delehoy. A couple phone calls and emails later, and the challenge was on!
"Mayor Walker and her staff and WKU Director of Athletics Wood Selig have been great sports about the challenge and the outcome of the game. Hopefully this is something that will re-emerge if the teams meet again in the future" said Delehoy.
So the inaugural "Battle of the Bowling Greens" has come and gone, and the two cities of Bowling Green now find themselves separated by more than just 400 miles...the Falcons now lead the all-time series in football 1-0.
