BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Members of the Bowling Green State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) staged the Falcon Variety Show and Date Auction to benefit the Dance Marathon today in Anderson Arena. With more than 200 onlookers in attendance, the SAAC raised $1,873. All of the proceeds will be donated to the BGSU Dance Marathon efforts.
The variety show resembled the American Idol competition with Brynn Pullano, Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Services as host Ryan Seacrest. Judging the competition was Dr. Ed Whipple, Vice President for Student Affairs, as Randy Jackson, Denise Van De Walle, head volleyball coach, as Paula Adbul, and Rick Court, Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning, as Simon Cowell.
The gymnastics team won the competition with their `Thriller' routine, while SAAC president Caroline Keating and a combination of the men's and women's soccer teams finished in second and third, respectively. Keating performed "the Evolution of Dance" while the soccer teams joined to parody Celebrity Jeopardy. Contestants in the skit included "Borat," "Harry Carey," "Brittany Spears," and head coach "Fred Thompson."
Other highlights included a rhythmic gymnastics dance by the football team's offensive line, OK, GO's "Here We Go Again" by the women's track team, the Spice Girl's "If You Want to Be My Lover" by the swim team, and "Stomp!" preformed by the volleyball team.
Between each act, 13 total student-athletes were auctioned off to the crowd to participate in a group date that would be held April 1. The auction earned $934. The volleyball combination of Chrissy Gothke and Stephanie Swiger earned the most overall money taking in a bid of $153 while hockey's Ryan Hohl brought in $115. Two other Falcon student-athletes raised $100-plus bids.
The student-athlete advisory committee is comprised of one representative from each team to serve as leadership group that encourages unity and camaraderie between teams and among all student-athletes. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee at Bowling Green State University strives to be the primary link between student athletes and administration to enhance the experience of all student-athletes.
