CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Carin Horne has been named a Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Thursday (March 1). The announcement marks the sixth time this season that the Falcons have had a Player-of-the-Week selection, but the first in a month and a half. Senior Ali Mann has earned the honor twice, on Nov. 22 and Dec. 11, while junior Kate Achter (Nov. 28) and senior Liz Honegger (Jan. 2) have also been recognized this season. Horne also won the award on Jan. 15.
Horne, a native of Lima, Ohio (Lima Senior H.S.), led all players with 23 points in the Falcons' 92-62 win over Miami Wednesday night (Feb. 28) at Anderson Arena. On 'Senior Night,' the Falcon senior made nine of her 12 shots from the floor, including a 3-for-4 effort from three-point land, and tied for game honors with eight rebounds. That rebounding total also tied a season best.
Horne also was 2-for-2 from the free-throw line, and had three steals as the Falcons closed the regular season with a 15-1 MAC mark. She finished the regular-season slate with averages of 11.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Horne earned the MAC's Player-of-the-Week honor for the East Division, while Ball State's Julie DeMuth earned the award in the West Division.
The Falcons, now 26-3 overall, prepare for the MAC Tournament. BGSU, as the East Division's top seed, has a first-round bye, and will face either Toledo or Buffalo in a quarterfinal-round matchup on Tuesday (March 6) at approximately 5:00 p.m. All conference tourney games will be held at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.
