A few notes as the Falcons spend Saturday in East Lansing...
LIVE STATS: Due to NCAA regulations, BGSUFalcons.com is not permitted to offer live statistics (i.e., 'gametracker') for Sunday's game. All of the live updates will be through the NCAASports.com web site. CLICK HERE for live stats of NCAA women's games.
TELEVISION: As mentioned, Sunday's game will be televised by ESPN. CLICK HERE for ESPN's coverage maps of Sunday's action.
The maps detail home market protected games -- areas which will see their home market games in their entirety. For example, the BGSU-OSU game will be available, in its entirety, in most of the state of Ohio and in all of the state of Oklahoma.
The rest of the country will be part of ESPN's whiparound coverage, where ESPN will take viewers to the best action from different games.
Regionalization/Home Market Protection: In the home markets of the competing teams, ESPN will televise the game of local interest. While constant updates from the other games will be provided, the networks, for the most part, will not switch to another game during live action, thereby establishing home market protection.
SATURDAY AT THE BRESLIN CENTER: In other news, the Falcons headed to the Breslin Center for the first time on Saturday afternoon. BGSU's open press conference was from 12:20 to 12:50 p.m., with head coach Curt Miller and senior student-athletes Liz Honegger, Ali Mann and Megan Thorburn at the dais.
At the NCAA Championships, the lockerroom is open to media members during the press conference and prior to that team's practice on the day before the first-round games. In the Falcons' last two trips to the NCAAs, nary a media member ventured into the lockerroom.
On Saturday, however, the Falcons -- who were using the Michigan State men's basketball lockerroom -- received much interest from the media throng. Michigan natives Thorburn (Mason, Mich.) and Mann (Chelsea, Mich.) received much of the attention, but nearly every other member of the team fielded a question or two during the session.
Then, BG took the court for the team's 50-minute open practice. With fans, media folks and the ESPN TV crew (Eric Collins, Mary Murphy and Todd Harris) in attendance, Miller and his staff put the Falcons through their paces.
The team will enjoy a few hours off, with players getting a few hours to do some schoolwork, watch some other games on TV or simply relax. Then, the BG travel party will head to dinner before meeting for another film/scout session and walk-through at the hotel Saturday evening.
