CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Falcons have a lot to be excited about after completing day one of the 2007 All-Ohio Championships. The Falcons rank second behind Akron who didn't lead until the pole vault, where they took the top three spots. The Falcons held the edge on the Zips all day after winning two events, qualifying one for the Regional meet and recording seven of ten personal-records on the day.
To start off, Andi Bunko coasted away with the javelin title, throwing 141-02.00, her farthest throw in two years. Sophomore Kylie Korsnack recorded a sixth place finish in the same event, throwing over an eight-foot personal-best.
Keeping the momentum going, Jamie Roflow and Kim Settle went one-two in the steeplechase and Roflow, with a time of 10:49.79 qualified for the Regional meet. Settle, who finished in a time of 10:51.04, missed out on qualifying by only .79 seconds.
In the women's hammer throw, three of the four athletes competing set personal-records. In Division I scoring Lauren Bryant finished eighth with a throw of 151-06 (10th overall). TaKarra Dunning finished right behind her with a throw of 149-04. Paris Bussey threw 137-07 and Stacey Turak set a best of 109-05.
Kara Butler may have had the toughest battle, running the 10,000-meter race in the scorching sun. But she ran well and finished fifth in personal-best time of 39:12.82.
To finish out the scoring for the day, Sabrina Forstein tied for eighth place in the pole vault, setting a new best of 10-11.75, putting her tied for second all-time in BGSU history.
So that's two champions, one Regional qualifier and seven of ten PR's. How many more will the Falcons rack up tomorrow?
Events begin at 11a.m. with the long jump.
