BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team is scheduled to play a three-game MAC series down in Oxford, Ohio this weekend against the Miami RedHawks.

Friday's pitcing matchup may be the most intriguing aspect of this weekend series as it pits two of the best hurlers in the Mid-American Conference against one another, Tyler Johnson (5-3, 2.67 ERA) vs. John Ely (6-2, 3.15 ERA).

Why Play More Than Six Innings?
No game involving Bowling Green this season has been decided in the final three innings or beyond into extra innings. Sitting at 17-22 overall, the Falcons are 17-0 when leading after six innings and 0-22 when trailing after six frames.
Johnson One of the Elite in the MAC
Senior Tyler Johnson has proven to be one of the best pitchers in the conference and exactly what a coaching staff looks for from their Friday starter. The Tipp City, Ohio native has thrown a complete game in three of his last four starts, and he came up just two outs shy of four straight by tossing 8.1 innings against Central Michigan. This workshorse pitcher ranks in the MAC top seven in five different statistical categories: Three complete games (1st), .234 opponent batting avg. (4th), Five wins (3rd), 2.67 Earned run average (7th), 64.0 innings pitched (3rd).

Wells Takes Weekly Honors Again
Senior Kurt Wells was named the MAC East player of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday, April 23rd. The Perrysburg, Ohio native won the award earlier this season as well for the week of Feb. 25th following Bowling Green's season-opening series at Middle Tennessee State. Wells hit at a .579 pace during the Falcons five games this week, including Bowling Green's first MAC series win of the season. The Perrysburg, Ohio native recorded multi-hit games in all four contests he started. He also stroked run-scoring hits in both of Bowling Green's MAC wins over Akron. He was responsible for two of the Falcons three runs in Friday's 3-0 win. Wells knocked in another run Sunday, going 4-for-7 with two runs scored.
Crazy Finale to Akron Series
After splitting the first two games in the home series against Akron, the Falcons pulled out a dramatic 16-15 for the first MAC series win of the season. Senior Captain Eric Lawson provided a walk-off RBI-single into shallow left field in the bottom of the ninth inning. Bowling Green held a 15-12 heading into the ninth, but a three-run homer by the Zips in the top half of the inning forced Lawson's heroics to win the game. BGSU banged out a season-high 24 hits en route to their 16 runs. Freshman Derek Spencer drove in five runs on a four-for-five day. Junior Andrew Foster continued his hot streak of late as well, bringing home three runs on three hits.
