BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - On Sunday, April 29th, the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team held its annual end-of-the season banquet to honor six seniors, and handed out several awards.
Freshman Morgan Balzer won Newcomer of the Year. The Most Improved award was given to sophomore Katie Follett while the Coach's Award went to seniors Karly Yohe and Sakura Tomita. Junior Jholeen Ponce captured Most Valuable Gymnast.
The 2007-08 captains were also announced. Seniors Jacque Bernhardt and Ponce will be next years team captains and the 2007-08 Gymnastics Leadership Council consist of, Marissa Saneholtz, Follette, and Balzer.
Senior Allison Swaffod was the only four-year letter winner, and Bernhardt, Bethany Kenel and Tomita all won their third year letter. Second year letter winners were Jenna Wirtanen, Ashlee deLeeuw, and Ponce. Balzer, Megan Chronister, Rachel Gourley, and Follett were all awarded their first letter.
The Falcons finished fifth in the Mid-American Conference with a record of 3-3 and 4-11 overall.
