Falcons Fall to the Lobos

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - BGSU volleyball lost their second match on Friday (Sept. 7) to host University of New Mexico, 27-30, 29-31, 31-33. The loss to the Lobos dropped the Falcons to 4-5 for the season.
Game one was a close battle between the teams with the lead going back and forth. The Falcons had the lead 23-21, but were unable to hold on after seven point Lobo run. The Falcons fought back rallying up a three point run but it wasn't enough to overcome to the Lobos and lost 27-30.
In game two with the Falcons down by one, 9-10 they put together a six point run to take the lead 15-10. The Falcons continued to pull away with a three point run bringing their lead to 19-11. However, the Lobos answered back with an eight point run tying up the game 19-19. The game continued neck and neck with both teams fighting for every point. With the game tied up once again at 28-28 and a Lobo serving error the Falcons took game point lead 29-28, but two errors by the Falcons turned the game back over to the Lobos who won game two, 31-29.
After a tough loss in game two the Falcons jumped out to an early 5-0 lead over the Lobos. As the Lobos fought back the Falcons continued to hold the lead until a seven point Lobo run, which gave the Lobos a 15-12 lead. The rest of game three would be point for point with neither team taking more than a two point lead. With the score game point 29-27 for the Falcons the Lobos tied it up once again 29-29. The Falcons found themselves down 30-31 but after a Corey Domek kill the Falcons once again tied the game up 31-31. The Falcons fell to the losing game three 31-33.
Despite the loss to the Lobos the Falcons had two hitters in double digits. Corey Domek led the way for the Falcons with 13 kills hitting at .310 for the match. Kendra Halm was right behind her with 12 kills hitting a .276. Sam Fish ran the offense for the Falcons with 36 assists. Chelsey Meek led the defense with 15 digs.
The Falcons finish the Comcast Lobo Invitational against Northern Colorado on Saturday (Sept. 8) at 1:00 p.m. MT.
