BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University head men's basketball coach Louis Orr has announced the hiring of Louis Twigg as an assistant coach. Twigg began his duties with the Falcons on Monday (Sept. 29).
Twigg, a native of Snow Hill, Md., comes to BGSU after spending a year as an assistant coach at Bloomsburg (Pa.) University. He also has more than seven years of Division I experience.
"I am excited about joining the Bowling Green program," said Twigg. "I look forward to working with Coach Orr, the rest of the staff and the student-athletes as we look to return to the top of the Mid-American Conference."
Prior to joining the Huskies, Twigg served as an administrative assistant at Indiana University during the 2005-06 season, working under head coach Mike Davis. At IU, Twigg oversaw all the editing for game and practice video, as well as game tape exchange. He also coordinated all aspects of the summer camp program, official and unofficial visits by recruits and assisting with NCAA and Big Ten compliance among other duties.
"Louis brings a wealth of experience and versatility to our program," said Orr. "He has worked for some great programs and some great coaches. Louis has a strong administrative background, and also did a great job at Bloomsburg in terms of recruiting and coaching.
"Louis will be as effective behind the scenes as he will on the bench, and that's what we were looking for in this position. He has a hunger for the game, and is still growing as a coach. He is a nice addition to our staff."
Before heading to IU, Twigg served as the Director of Basketball Operations at La Salle University from 2003-05. Twigg coordinated all aspects of the Explorers' travel, and also assisted with scheduling film exchange.
Twigg maintained the same job and duties for one season at the College of Charleston before heading to La Salle. While at Charleston, he was a part of a team that finished with a 25-8 overall record.
Twigg also spent two seasons at Temple University, working under legendary head coach John Chaney. While with the Owls, Twigg served as the video coordinator and undergraduate assistant coach, while also earning his degree. His responsibilities included scouting opponents, charting stats during games and coordinating film exchange. During his first season, Temple advanced to the Elite Eight in the 2001 NCAA Championships.
Additionally, Twigg was the head manager for the University of Maryland from 1997-99. While with the Terrapins, he assisted head coach Gary Williams with basketball camps, as well as with other day-to-day operations.
Twigg earned his bachelor's degree in Sport and Recreation from Temple University in 2002. He is married to the former Tara Greene, and the couple has three children; daughters Sophia (4) and Talia (1) and son Micah, born in August.
