BOWLING GREEN QUOTES
Head Coach Gregg Brandon
Thoughts on the game and the future of the Falcons this season
"I can't fault the effort of the kids. I think that they played their guts out. We had a chance to win the game. It's a heck of a league and two losses doesn't eliminate us yet. People are going to put the fork in us and say that we're done but we'll respond. Our seniors have too much pride to let this thing slip away now."
On what they are going to do to prevent some of the penalties, especially personal fouls
"The next step is to bench a kid. If we continue to lose games because of it, then that is what we are going to do. We'll sit them because that is unacceptable."
On whether there is any panicking to still be a contender in the MAC
"Nobody's panicking there are five football games left. We very easily could have won that game because it was a game of momentum. If we were getting blown out of games then yea but we're not. It's the same thing that I told them after Akron, we need to be a more consistent and disciplined football team. That's been hurting us when we lose."
On the biggest change the team needs to make
"Our discipline. Every body including myself has to do their job on every snap and not give free yards to them."
On the possibility of still winning the MAC East
"We squandered another opportunity. The East is up in the air but if we want to be at that level we have to take it game by game. Squandering another opportunity like this today rips you up. We have to be thinking about the next game."
On Miami's running game
"There were no surprises. Everything they did we saw on film. We knew it coming in and that was something after last week we wanted to correct. This week we didn't execute. We didn't stop them. No excuse for that."
On how hard the loss is
"It's about as tough as they come. We had a great opportunity today against a team like Miami we consider them a rival. I think we blew it and its just real tough to swallow."
On how hard the loss is at home On the changes the team needs to make MIAMI QUOTES Coach Montgomery
On preparation for the game On the momentum change with the inadvertent whissel On the importance of the running game J.R. Taylor
On the increased number of carries Robbie Wilson
On the interception catch Clay Belton
On his first start
"All the excitement was earlier on in the week. Throughout the week you get a sense of time to calm down. You get to work with all the guys I get to work with on Saturday. It was good that all the guys that have been out their playing took me under their wing and helped me stay calm."
"Offensively we squandered a lot of opportunities and we obviously have to cut down on penalties because it's a big issue for us right now. Settling for a field goal on the first drive didn't help us. When we get down that far that early we have to convert with a touchdown to put some pressure on them. We haven't done a really good job of that."
"We're not consistent. I don't know what it is about being here or what it is , but we are just not consistent right now. We had a really good week of practice. I don't know if we weren't really ready or what but we really squandered it today."
"Obviously we have to work on being more disciplined. It's not just one individual guy, a lot of different guys are involved with it. We have to work as a team to do it. We know that it probably lost us the game today. It's something we have to focus on off the field to because it always comes back to the little things off the field showing up late for meeting and stuff like that. It's really showing right now that we are having some struggles with our discipline on the field. We need to focus on it more and we need correct it."
"I told our guys after the game I was so proud of not just today, but the way they came to practice. In this sport when you don't win as much as you would like after working so hard the way you can get discouraged is about results. The last couple weeks we have had our best weeks of practice."
"That is just one of those plays. As a coach you always question the officials. But they are human. Just one of those ones where the eyes are always on them, it was just a play in the game that just didn't go our way but we bounced back from it."
"When Dave DiFranco went out we were worried about our protection a little bit. We lost probably our best offensive lineman. We tried to throw the ball some in the second half, we didn't have as much success as we did the first half. We felt like we were running the ball well and that is what we needed to do."
"I had confidence. I felt like either way I was going to score a touchdown on a kick-off return or offense today when I asked them before the game. I just had the confidence all the way through I knew that I could depend on my teammates especially the line."
"It was one of those plays where I had a feeling more than anything. Not that I came out of the coverage I was supposed to be in, but they had been running this play, the little bubble screen, most of the game and I guess I was thinking that they would probably run it or do a fake to try and make us bite on it and get us over the top."
