Falcons Host the Leaders of the MAC

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons will host the Mid-American Conference East and West Division leaders, Miami and Western Michigan this weekend in what could be one of the most important weekends for the Orange and Brown. The Falcons, 7-3 in the MAC are currently tied for second in the East with Ohio only one game behind Miami, 8-2. The Falcons will match-up against the RedHawks on Thursday (Oct. 30) at 7:00 p.m. Thursday's match-up will also mark Pack the House, PINK OUT Night to raise awareness for breast cancer. After matching up against the leader of the East the Falcons will wrap-up their four-match homestand against the leader of the West, Western Michigan. The Falcons will take on the Broncos on Saturday (Nov. 1) at 7:00 p.m.

THIS WEEK'S MATCH-UPS
Falcons vs. RedHawks • (10/30 • 7:00 p.m.)
The Falcons will take on MAC East Division leader, Miami in an integral match-up for the MAC East Division ... the RedHawks are currently 14-8 overall and 8-2 in the MAC after going 1-1 last week ... the RedHawks swept Toledo (3-0) but then fell to Ball State (2-3) ending Miami's seven-match winning streak ... the RedHawks are now only one game ahead of the Falcons in the MAC East Division ... the RedHawks are the only MAC East division opponent to lead the their all-times series against the Falcons (23-36) ... the Falcons five match-winning streak against the RedHawks was broken earlier this season as they fell to Miami ... the last meeting between the two teams was earlier this season where the RedHawks defeated the Falcons 1-3 in Oxford, Ohio.
Falcons vs. Broncos • (11/1 • 7:00 p.m.)
The Orange and Brown are set to match-up against MAC West Division leader, Western Michigan to wrap-up their four-match homestand ... the Broncos are currently 18-3 overall and 9-1 in the MAC ... the Falcons and the Broncos lead the MAC both with 18 overall wins, the most in the MAC ... the Broncos are currently on a six match-winning streak with their last loss coming against Central Michigan, 1-3 (Oct. 4) ... the Broncos defeated Kent State (3-1) and Ohio (3-2) last weekend ... the Broncos lead the Falcons in the all time series 16-31 ... the last meeting between the two teams the Falcons fell 1-3 to the Broncos on the road.
PACK THE HOUSE, PINK OUT NIGHT
The BGSU netters will be hosting Pack the House, PINK OUT Night, a breast cancer awareness event co-sponsored by BGSU's Sigma Lambda Gamma and Phi Mu sororities on Thursday (Oct. 30) as the Falcons take on the RedHawks in the race for the MAC East Division. All fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink. The Falcons are joining MAC volleyball teams in doing their part to raise Breast Cancer awareness through out the season. Teams are dedicating one game to raise money for various organizations that support the fight for breast cancer.
82 AND COUNTING...
Chelsey Meek set a new record as she posted her 81st consecutive match of 10-plus digs with 25 digs against Ball State (Oct. 24), now the longest streak of all-time in nation as well as the longest streak of any active player. Meek has continued to extend her streak now with 82 consecutive matches of 10-plus digs.
HALM STUFFIN'
With Thanksgiving a month a way Kendra Halm got into the spirit early this year as she stuffed yet another hitter to record her 414th career block assist setting a new BGSU career record. Halm has amassed 419 career block assists surpassing Lori Kemerer (1996-99) and Lisa Mika (1988-91), whom previously held the BGSU record with 413 block assists.
"MOHR" DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Meghan Mohr continues to double-up for the Falcons on offense and defense. Mohr has recorded seven double-doubles on the season thus far. During the Best Western Invitational she recorded double-doubles in back-to-back matches. Mohr first posted 11kills and 11 digs against Binghamton in the 2008 season opener, followed by 17 kills and 13 digs against Rice recording her second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season.
FALCONS DOMINATE ARCH-RIVAL TOLEDO, 3-0
The Falcons recorded their 25th win over their arch-rival Toledo in Anderson Arena with a three set sweep 25-19, 25-21, 25-21, (Oct. 25). The Falcons extended their winning streak over the Rockets to four matches, winning 12 of the last 17 meetings. The Falcons got everyone involved on offense with every player in the front row recording at least one kill out hitting the Rockets with 41 kills and a .211 hitting percentage compared to Toledo's 33 kills and mere .096 hitting percentage.
SENIOR TRIO LIFTS FALCONS PAST CARDINALS, 3-2
Head Coach Denise Van De Walle and the Falcons edged out, Van De Walle's alma mater, the Ball State Cardinals, 3-2 (Oct. 24). The Falcon senior trio had a very impressive night, terminating over half of the Falcons' kills and setting two new records. Seniors Kendra Halm and Chelsey Meek both set new records. Halm set a new BGSU record for career block assists as she assisted a teammate to stuff her 414th career hitter. The program record (413) was previously held by Lori Kemerer (1996-99) and Lisa Mika (1988-91). Meek set a national record as she posted her 81st consecutive match of 10-plus digs, now the longest streak of all-time in nation as well as the longest streak of any current player. Meghan Mohr also had a stand out performance recording a team and match high 19 kills along with 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.
"FALCON-TOBER"
The month of October has been a successful month for Head Coach Denise Van De Walle and the Falcons. The Falcons have posted a 149-106 record in month of October since 1983 with a .584 winning percentage. The Orange and Brown have opened the month of October with a victory for the last three years in a row. Last year the Falcons opened October with a sweep over IPFW which led to an 8-1 record for the month of October, the second straight year the Falcons have only lost one match in October. The Falcons opened October this season with a victory over the Bobcats, BG's first win in 12 matches against Ohio. The Falcons are now 8-1 in the month of October.
FALCONS SINK THE VIKINGS' SHIP, 3-2
The Falcons sunk the Cleveland State Vikings' ship (Oct. 21) with a 3-2 (25-16, 19-25, 16-25, 25-18, 15-8) victory as BG wrapped up their five-match road trip and non-conference schedule. The victory brought the Falcon netters to 16-7 overall and 5-3 in Mid-American Conference play, including a 7-1 record in five set matches this season.
NUMBER "2" THOUSAND & MAC EAST POW
The number two is magical for Bowling Green, Ohio native Chelsey Meek who was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Co-Player of the Week (Oct. 13). She not only wears number two on the court but multiplied it by a thousand to become the first Falcon in program history to ever record 2,000 career digs. Meek recorded her 2,000th dig in the Falcons, 3-1 win over Buffalo (Oct. 11).
Meek, currently ranked 30th in nation for digs, led the Falcons to victories over MAC East Division opponents Akron (3-2) and Buffalo (3-1) totaling 49 digs averaging an impressive 5.44 digs per set. She not only holds the BGSU career record with 2,069 digs but is also now fifth in the MAC all-time record books for career digs. She currently leads all active players in the nation in consecutive matches recording 10-plus digs as she extended her streak to 80 matches and tied the all-time record.
YOUR FRIENDLY FALCON WATCH IN THE MILESTONE RACE
Junior Corey Domek is on the Friendly Falcon Watch in the milestone race. Domek currently has 974 career kills only 26 shy of becoming the 15th Falcon in program history to record 1,000 kills.
FALCON BIG GUNS The Falcon offensive attack is led by three big guns, Kendra Halm, Meghan Mohr and Corey Domek. Halm has recorded 18 matches of double-digits kills, also including a 10-match double-digit kill streak as well as terminating double-digits in six of the last eight matches. Mohr has recorded double-digit kills in 16 matches, including a 10-match double-digit kill streak and is currently on a two-match streak of double-digit kills. Domek has recorded 16 matches of double-digits kills. Combined the three big guns have recorded 836 kills this season thus far, nearly two-thirds of the Falcons' kills.
FALCONS AGAINST THE MAC
The Falcons own seven of 11 all-time series records against Mid-American Conference opponents. BG leads four of the five MAC East division opponents including Akron (25-11), Buffalo (16-1), Kent State (41-18) and Ohio (41-21). The only East division foe that leads the Falcons is Miami (23-36). In cross-over play the Falcons lead three of the six West opponents, including Central Michigan (24-20), Eastern Michigan (28-21) and Toledo (48-12). Ball State (15-34), Northern Illinois (8-20) and Western Michigan (16-31) all lead the Falcons.
