CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the first time in his career, senior linebacker Erique Dozier has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday (Nov. 10) afternoon.
Dozier won the award after recording seven tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception in the Falcons' 28-3 win over the Ohio Bobcats last Saturday. His first pick of the year was returned 38 yards as the fifth-year senior helped set up the winning touchdown.
Dozier, along with the Falcon defense, allowed no offensive touchdowns for the first time since BGSU shutout Western Michigan 52-0 in 2004. The Orange and Brown also had their best defensive effort of the year, allowing just 40 yards on the ground and 228 yards of total offense.
The Akron, Ohio native is second on the team with 73 tackles, including 4.5 for loss. He also has one interception, four pass breakups and two forced fumbles.
Dozier and the Falcons will play host to the Buffalo Bulls on Friday, Nov. 21. Opening kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
