BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) -- The Bowling Green men's basketball team held Wayne State to just 28 percent shooting in the second half and the Falcons rolled past the Warriors 80-48 Thursday night in the team's home opener at Anderson Arena. BGSU, conversely, shot 52 percent and outscored Wayne State 42-23 in the final 20 minutes.
Nate Miller scored a team-high 15 points in his first action of the season for Bowling Green, adding eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Erik Marschall came off the bench to score 14, while Brian Moten and Darryl Clements had 11 each.
Clinging to a 22-19 lead with 8:12 to go in the first half, Bowling Green used a 16-2 run over the next seven minutes to build a 38-25 halftime lead. Wayne State got as close as 12 points early in the second half but the Falcons scored 18 unanswered points during an eight-minute stretch that pushed the lead to 30.
Along with Miller, Chris Knight saw his first action of the season, scoring six points and adding two rebounds, two assists and a steal in 13 minutes. The addition of those two players make Bowling Green a deep team and gives head coach Louis Orr a multitude of options down the bench. The Falcons scored 43 points off the bench.
In addition, Bowling Green held a 44-30 rebounding advantage with 18 offensive rebounds. The Falcons also had 18 assists and just 12 turnovers, forcing 18 Wayne State miscues. Joe Jakubowski led the way with five assists and no turnovers for BGSU.
Shane Lawal, an NCAA Division I transfer, led Wayne State with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Wayne State falls to 1-1 on the season and Bowling Green moves to 3-1 with its second consecutive victory. The Falcons will play at Ohio State Monday at 8:00 p.m. in the team's second game against a Big Ten team this year. BGSU lost to Minnesota 68-61 in the second game of the NABC Classic Saturday.
