CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University women's basketball sophomore Lauren Prochaska has been named a Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon (Dec. 1). Prochaska earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Prochaska, a native of Plain City, Ohio (Jonathan Alder H.S.), averaged 20.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals as the Falcons went a perfect 3-0 on a week-long road trip. BGSU picked up wins over Saint Francis (Pa.) (98-74; Nov. 25), Winston-Salem State (80-43; Nov. 28) and UNC Greensboro (71-53; Nov. 29), with the latter two games coming at the UNCG Marriott Classic.
Prochaska was named to the all-tournament team in Greensboro.
On the week, the sophomore shot 56.4 percent from the field, including a 10-for-18 (55.6%) performance from three-point range. She exploded for a career-high 32 points -- just three shy of the school single-game record -- in the win at Saint Francis. Prochaska went 13-for-18 from the field in that game, including a 5-of-7 effort from beyond the arc, and also had seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Prochaska had nine points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals in the 37-point blowout of WSSU. She took only six shots in the game, as the Falcons cruised to the win. On Saturday, Prochaska had a game-high 20 points, adding seven rebounds, in BG's win over UNCG.
On the year, Prochaska now has 17.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, leading the Brown and Orange in both categories. She is shooting 50.0% from three-point land this season, having made 18 of her 36 attempts.
Prochaska shared this week's MAC East Division P-O-W award with Buffalo's Kourtney Brown. Central Michigan's Britni Houghton earned the West Division honor.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller, 4-2 on the season, take a four-game winning streak into a Wednesday (Dec. 3) game vs. Detroit. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Anderson Arena. The UDM contest begins a four-game homestand for the Falcons.
