Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University redshirt sophomore Chris Knight was named Mid-American Conference men's basketball East Division Player of the Week Monday. Knight led the Falcons to a pair of wins during the week.
Bowling Green defeated Towson 77-58 Monday and Eastern Illinois 78-60 Sunday. Knight entered the week averaging just 2.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game on 26 percent shooting this year, but averaged 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in the two games, making 9-of-17 shots.
Against Towson, Knight came off the bench to score 13 points, 11 of which came in the first half, in 18 minutes. He then posted the Falcons' first double-double of the year with 16 points and 10 rebounds against Eastern Illinois, making 8-of-9 free-throws. Knight has made large strides at the free-throw line, improving from .608 as a freshman a year ago to .842 this year.
The award marks the second time that Knight has received MAC Player of the Week honors. After being named MVP of the Peggy Cronin Classic in his hometown of Cincinnati, he received the award Nov. 12 a year ago.
Bowling Green is 6-5 in the 2008-09 season and will be back in action New Year's Eve as the Falcons travel to Pittsburgh to face Duquesne at 4 p.m.
