Slimming the Field
The fight for the MAC standings have continued to dwindle each week and recently the jam atop the standings have narrowed even more ... in the East both BGSU and Miami have produced 9-3 records; Seperation Saturday will end that jam at the top ... getting back to action, Ohio won another and is at 8-3 ... they will make up their missed game at NIU in early March ... in the West, only Western Michigan retained their top slot in the opposing division and are 8-4.
A Win Over Miami Would Mean:
* Bowling Green would SPLIT the series with the RedHawks this season. Miami took the first game on Jan. 22, 2008 in Anderson Arena. More importantly the Orange and Brown would move a full game ahead of Miami in the MAC race. If Ohio University were to win the same day, BGSU would have a half game on the Bobcats and a head-to-head win over Ohio University dating back to Jan. 12, 2008. The Bobcats were forced to postpone a game versus Northern Illinois as the campus mourns a recent tragedy.
* Head coach Curt Miller will BREAK former Falcon's head coach Fran Voll's standing record of 144 career wins. Miller tied the record on Feb. 20, 2008 as he and the Falcons beat Kent State, 76-68 inside Anderson Arena.
* Seniors Kate Achter and Whitney Taylor will TIE the MAC (male or female) record for most wins in a four year career set last season by the Bowling Green Class of 2007. The current record stands at 103 wins.
* The women's basketball program will produce its fifth consecutive 10-win season in league play. Starting in the 2003-04 season, Bowling Green has gone 11-5, 13-3 (04-05), 16-0 (05-06), 15-1 (06-07) and are on the bubble with their 9-3 record thus far. In that time the Falcons average at least 12 wins per season. In each of the completed seasons they have made an appearance in the MAC Tournament Championship and have taken the crown three times.
* Ball State will remain as the only conference program to beat Bowling Green on the road. The Falcons have complied a 4-1 MAC record away from Anderson Arena this season ... since losing at Eastern Michigan on Feb. 19, 2004 Bowling Green is 21-1 on the road.
Fancy Meeting You Again ...
Miami University guard Amanda Jackson had a game-high 27 points to lead the RedHawks to a 63-60 win over the Bowling Green State University women's basketball team on Jan. 22 ... the Mid-American Conference tilt was held at the venerable Anderson Arena ... BG was led by 20 points from freshman guard Lauren Prochaska, while Lindsey Goldsberry added 15. Freshman Crystal Murdaugh then tallied a team-high nine rebounds and nearly found the 10 point region with her nine matching points ... Prochaska opened the game with a made three-pointer (19:15), her first of four on the evening, but the short lived lead, 3-0, would be the last for BG as MU's Laura Markwood mirrored Prochaska's efforts to tie the match (17:59) and was later followed by a Jackson trey that would permanently give the visitor's the lead, 6-3. Markwood and Jackson were responsible for the first 11 RedHawk points ... in the last 1:35 of the contest, 12 points back, Bowling Green went on to out score Miami 11-2 with five of Goldsberry's points being registered with under 30-seconds to play ... Goldsberry first sank her third three of the night with 00:29 remaining to cut the MU lead to 61-56 by way of a Prochaska assist causing a RedHawk timeout ... an offensive foul by Achter near mid-court put the ball back in the hands of Miami as Stephanie Ford hit both ends of her FT chance to extend the late advantage back to seven, 56-63 ... Murdaugh followed with a jumper in the paint with 00:11 reading on the clock and was fouled in the process ... despite missing the FT, Goldsberry, the bottom player in the midst of a scrum, came up with the rebound and a pass to Breske under the basket ... though the sophomore got off the lay-up, the traffic around her and her unbalanced stroke prevented the try from falling in the Falcons' favor ... with 0.3 left on the clock, Ford was called for a foul and sent Goldsberry to the line. The junior converted both FT's as the Falcons finished three points under Miami in the 63-60 loss ... BGSU's seven game win streak against Miami was snapped with the loss ... it marked the first time a player on the current Miami roster has beat Bowling Green throughout their collegiate careers ... the last time BGSU had lost to Miami was February 15, 2003 ... the Falcons were 7-24 (29.2%) from the floor in the first 20:00 of play ... their 29.2 percent was the lowest FG% they had recorded in the first half at the time ... the Falcons went on to finish at 35.0% (21-60) on the night ... BGSU is 36-27 all-time versus Miami.
