For the first time in his career, Bowling Green State University sophomore defenseman Kyle Page has been named a finalist for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. The Wixom, Mich. native was 1-of-11 student athletes named by the league office on Tuesday (Mar. 11) for the award, which will be handed out at the 2008 CCHA Awards in Detroit.
Page, one of the CCHA's finest defensemen and a candidate for the CCHA's Best Defensive Defenseman Award, is a sports management major who is currently sporting over a 3.5 cumulative GPA. This past semester he was named to school's dean list as he carried a 3.8 GPA throughout the fall semester.
This season Page has played in all, but two games for BG as he has been one of the Falcons' main defensive stoppers on the blueline. His 25 recorded blocked shots rank second on the team as he has dressed in 35 games.
Page has five career points in his two-year career and was named honorable mention All-Rookie team in the CCHA last season as a freshman.
The faculty representative at each CCHA school, in consultation with the head coach, selected the institution's scholar-athlete honoree. Nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 through the fall term of the selection year to receive the award. The league's overall honoree will be chosen by a vote of the conference's faculty representatives.
The 2008 CCHA Awards will be held on Thursday, March 20 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $15. The evening begins with a social hour at 7:00 p.m., followed by the presentation at 8:15 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by mailing a check or money order to: CCHA, 23995 Freeway Park Dr., Farmington Hills, MI 48335.
