Hockey Announces 2007-08 Team Award Winners

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University hockey team held its annual Awards and Senior Recognition Banquet on Sunday (Apr. 6) evening, handing out the annual team awards and paying tribute to five graduating seniors. The event was held in Olscamp Hall, located on the BGSU campus.
Senior tri-captain Derek Whitmore, sophomore defenseman Kyle Page and senior tri-captain John Mazzei were the lone Falcons to take home more than one piece of hardware on the night.
Whitmore, who had a career-best 37 points this season and a career-best 27 goals, captured the Jim Sears Most Valuable Player of the Year Award for the second-straight season and also walked away with the Sam Cooper Trophy for finishing as the team's leading scorer.
Page, who holds a 3.58 cumulative GPA in sports management, earned the Jack Gregory Award for being the Falcons' top scholar-athlete. He also was named the Jim Ruehl Award recipient for the second-straight season, as he was recognized as the team's Best Defensive Player.
Mazzei, who ended his season with a career-best 20 points (9-11--20), took home the Howard Brown Award, voted on by the coaches, while he, along with freshman goaltender Nick Eno, were both named co-winners of the Bill and Helen Lloyd Award for Most Improved Player.
Also taking home awards on the night were senior tri-captain Michael Hodgson, who was named the Dr. Ron Zwierlein Leadership Award winner and Gene Robedaeu, who was recognized for his 30-plus years of work and service around BGSU hockey with the Dr. Tom Wojciechowski Award for distinguished service to the hockey program.
