Falcons Close Non-League Schedule this Weekend

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, riding a four-game unbeaten streak, concludes the non-league schedule this weekend ... the Falcons of head coach Andy Richards will wrap up a three-match homestand by hosting the University of Detroit Mercy in Friday (Sept. 19) action ... kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. at Cochrane Field ... then, the Brown and Orange will have one final match before Mid-American Conference play begins, heading to Cincinnati for a Sunday match vs. Xavier University ... that match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at the XU Soccer Complex.

KORDAN NAMED MAC PLAYER OF WEEK
Falcon junior Colleen Kordan was named a MAC Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday (Sept. 15) ... a native of Strongsville, Ohio, Kordan earned the honor for the first time in her BGSU career ... she scored the first two goals of her collegiate career, and anchored a Falcon defense that recorded a pair of shutouts in as many games ... Kordan, who shared this week's award with Akron's Jordan Baranowski, is the second Falcon in as many weeks to win the award ... Alexa Arsenault was last week's (Sept. 8) winner.
LAST WEEKEND
The Falcons picked up a pair of shutout wins at Cochrane Field ... BGSU exploded for a 7-0 win over Tennessee Tech on Friday (Sept. 12), before downing Marshall, 3-0, Sunday afternoon (Sept. 14) ... no fewer than four Falcons scored their first collegiate goals in the TTU game, including juniors Colleen Kordan and Carolyn Nesline and freshmen Emily Merritt and Katelyn Turner ... seniors Gina Rossi and Corbie Yee and sophomore Jackie Tamerlano also found the back of the net vs. the Golden Eagles ... Alexa Arsenault and Christy Zabek combined for the shutout in goal, with each GK playing 45 minutes ... Arsenault had one save in the first half, while Zabek made four stops in the second 45 minutes ... vs. Marshall, Kordan scored on a penalty kick for the second-straight match, giving the Falcons the lead just 3:09 into the game ... soph Katie Stephenson doubled the lead in the second half, and Yee completed the scoring with her second goal of the weekend ... Arsenault earned the complete-game shutout, making four saves.
ABOUT THE FALCONS
The Falcons are 3-2-2 on the young season, after the wins over Tennessee Tech and Marshall last weekend ... after opening the campaign with a record of 0-2-1, BGSU is 3-0-1 in the last four games ... the Falcons have outscored the opposition by a 15-1 count in those four matches ... no fewer than 12 different Falcons have scored at least one goal this season to date ... fifth-year senior Gina Rossi currently leads the way, with seven points ... Rossi has a team-high three goals and one assist ... senior Corbie Yee has five points, on a pair of goals and an assist, while junior Colleen Kordan has two goals for four points ... freshman Megan Amann has a team-high four assists, including three in the last two matches ... redshirt sophomore Alexa Arsenault has started all seven matches, and has 38 saves and a 1.06 goals-against average ... senior Christy Zabek has played over 76 minutes of shutout ball in three relief appearances ... BGSU returned 18 of 23 letterwinners, including nine starters, from a 2007 squad that went 10-9-3 overall and 6-5-0 in MAC play ... the '07 Falcons finished in fourth place in the final conference standings, then advanced all the way to the MAC Tournament's championship match for the fourth time in five seasons ... the returning Falcons combined for nearly 90 percent of the team's goals scored in 2007, while the two returning goalkeepers combined to start 21 of the team's 22 matches last fall.
THE OPPONENTS / THE SERIES
Detroit is 2-2-1 on the season ... the Titans are at Michigan State Wednesday (Sept. 17) before coming to BGSU two days later ... UDM saw a three-game unbeaten streak come to an end with a 1-0 road loss to UC Irvine on Friday ... prior to that match, the Titans had posted shutouts vs. IUPUI, Eastern Michigan and Madonna ... the EMU match was a scoreless tie ... SCORING SURGE
Prior to the IPFW game (Sept. 5), the Falcons had not scored more than three goals in a match since the 2005 season ... over the last four games, though, BGSU has averaged 3.75 goals.
A RECORD-SETTING FRIDAY
The Falcons set several school records in Friday's (Sept. 12) win over Tennessee Tech ... seven different players scored in the match, the most different goalscorers in a game in BG annals ... additionally, head coach Andy Richards used no fewer than 27 different players, also a school record, in the win.
YEE HITS DOUBLE DIGITS, TWICE
Senior Corbie Yee had a goal and an assist vs. Tennessee Tech, and added another goal against Marshall ... in the process, she became just the sixth player in school history to reach double digits in both goals and assists ... Yee, BGSU's active career scoring leader, ranks seventh in career goals (15), 12th in assists (10) and eighth in points (40) at the University.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Falcons' two wins over the weekend improved the team's all-time record at Cochrane Field to 51-51-8 ... BGSU is at .500 in home games for the first time since October of 1999 (since the Falcons were 12-12-1 after a loss to Central Michigan).
FALCON NOTES
Senior Gina Rossi has a team-leading seven points in 2008 ... she has nearly doubled her scoring total from the last two years combined ... Rossi had nine points as a freshman in 2004, then sat out the following year due to injury ... she had two points in both the 2006 and '07 seasons ... freshman Megan Amann had the first two-assist game of her brief career in the Tennessee Tech contest ... she added another assist vs. Marshall, and now has a team-leading four helpers this year to date ... BGSU's seven-goal total against TTU was the team's highest in over four years, since a 7-3 win over Duquesne on Aug. 27, 2004 ... the goal total is tied for the third-highest output in school history.
