Shari Luther, Allison Kearney Honored By MAC

Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green volleyball player Shari Luther was named to the Mid-American Conference First Team and Allison Kearney was named to the All-Freshman team as announced today by the MAC office.

Luther had a breakout season in 2009 and was named to the first team after leading the conference in attack percentage at .364 and pacing the Falcons in kills, blocks, and total points. She has 322 kills on the year, an average of 2.68 per set, and 97 blocks. Twice Luther was named MAC East Division Player of the Week, once after leading the Falcons to a 4-0 record at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational and again after posting 29 kills in matches against Ball State and Toledo.

Kearney made a big impact in her first season in Bowling Green and was named to the All-Freshman team after guiding the Falcon attack as a first-year starting setter. She ranks fourth in the MAC in assists with 10.27 per set and is seventh with 0.29 aces per set. She is also third on the team with 2.36 digs per set and has added 44 blocks.

Bowling Green will compete in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals Friday at 1:30 p.m. The Falcons, seeded No. 11, upset rival Toledo, the sixth-seed, in the first round and will face No. 3 seed Miami. The RedHawks have defeated Bowling Green twice this year.
